Saka out, 4 changes: How Arsenal could line-up to beat Crystal Palace

Arsenal head into their clash with Crystal Palace looking to build on a strong recent run, and Mikel Arteta has some intriguing options as he manages minutes across a demanding schedule.

The last outing saw a vibrant attacking display, capped by a Leandro Trossard impressing in the No.9 role. The Belgian scored and linked play superbly, but with another game on the horizon so soon, rotation could be key.

Thomas Partey is expected to return to the starting XI, offering balance and bite in midfield. That could allow Mikel Merino, impressive again last match, to push further forward into the striker role Trossard occupied. Merino’s aerial presence and pressing could be a smart tactical shift against a physically combative Palace side.

With Merino up top, Trossard could shift to the left flank, giving Gabriel Martinelli a well-earned rest. The Brazilian has put in several high-intensity performances, and with the season entering a decisive phase, his load must be managed.

Another area of potential rotation is on the right. Bukayo Saka was superb again but took a heavy knock and has only just returned from a significant injury. Starting three games in a week would be a risk, especially with exciting prospect Ethan Nwaneri waiting in the wings. Fresh off a confidence-boosting goal, the teenager could offer flair and directness in a fixture where Arsenal should control possession.

In defence, William Saliba has been a rock all season, but managing his minutes could prove smart, especially with Gabriel now out for the season. Jurrien Timber was fully rested against Ipswich, so he could come in centrally alongside Kiwior, with Ben White maintaining his spot at right-back as he continues to build back up his fitness. Myles Lewis-Skelly could also return to the side, after Oleksandr Zinchenko deputised.

The Gunners’ predicted XI could look something like this: Raya; White, Timber, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Trossard, Merino, Nwaneri.

Arteta has plenty of depth at his disposal now, and this fixture presents the perfect opportunity to use it. Resting key players while rewarding those in form and bringing in fresh legs could prove the difference in defeating Palace who may also have their eyes on their weekend semi-final.
