Ali Larter really appreciates the presence of veteran actor Sam Elliott on the set of Landman.

It’s safe to say that one of the break out roles of Landman’s first two seasons has been Ali Larter as Angela. The series that tackles the dramatic ins-and-outs of  the oil industry – as well as family life – boasts an impressive cast, with the likes of Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore both playing major roles. But one role that continues to be a scene stealer is Ali Larter’s Angela, who is often acting opposite of Thornton’s Tommy Norris.

I won’t spoil anything in case you haven’t gotten to the show just yet (what have you been doing if you haven’t?) and are still planning on getting to it, but Angela and Tommy have a very non-traditional romantic relationship. The former Varsity Blues and Legally Blonde star takes a lot of pride in portraying the complicated-but-caring character, and often talks about how grateful she is to share the screen with other talented actors and actresses.

Like Season 2’s addition of Sam Elliott, who plays Tommy Norris’ father, T.L..

During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Landman actress took some time to speak on the wonderful cast of the show, and how excited everyone was to have Elliott join on for Season 2:

“Our cast is so incredible, and having Sam Elliott join is just like… we have legends. It’s a bunch of these rebellious actors that have kind of done it their way, and to be able to work against them is incredible.”

One of the second season’s iconic scenes has been the “Pirate Dinner,” which Larter says shot only a couple of days into Sam Elliott being on set.

The actress behind Angela says that from day one, Sam Elliott has brought so much to the set of Landman – both on camera and off of it. She’s very grateful that he’s a part of the cast, and had nothing but good things to say about the 81-year-old actor:

“It was a couple of days before (shooting the Pirate Dinner) when it was Sam’s first day, when we got to meet him. He was sitting outside. He doesn’t even want a director’s chair. He sits on an apple box. He comes first thing in the morning, whether he’s working or not. He just wants to be there and be a part of it. And he’s so kind to the crew.

So he was kind of sitting there and looking out, and I just sat right on the arm of his chair, and we started chatting. He connected with me, and was so open. Just like the icon and legend that he is, he just brings so much soul to our show. He’s amazing.”

It’s great to hear that Larter and the cast of Landman love having Elliott around, because I can speak for everyone when I say that fans love that he joined the hit show. Casting Sam as Billy Bob Thornton’s dad might be one of the best decisions in the history of television. Sam Elliott plays so well off of Thornton and everyone else in the show… so it sounds like he was a welcome addition all around.
