NFL Agents Say Players Are Increasingly Concerned About The Electrical Substation Near The 49ers Facility: “They’re Gonna Have To Move”

A viral theory blaming an electrical substation for a rash of injuries to the team has San Francisco 49er fans – and apparently, some NFL players – calling for the team to move their practice facility.

49er fans have been looking for an explanation after a brutal season of injuries, including a heartbreaking Achilles tear for star tight end George Kittle last weekend in the NFL playoffs.

Kittle’s injury, which came in the second quarter of the 49ers’ NFC wild card matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, is the third time this season the highest-paid tight end in the league has been sidelined – all with different injuries.

During a week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Kittle suffered a torn hamstring that kept him out for six weeks. Then in week 16, he suffered an ankle injury that kept him out the following game. And then came last night’s torn Achilles, which will sideline Kittle for the remainder of the 49ers’ playoff run as he hopes to be ready to return at the beginning of next season.

And Kittle is far from the only 49ers superstar who’s been bit by the injury bug this season.

Quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a turf toe injury during a week 4 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars and ended up missing six games during the regular season, and star wide receiver Ricky Pearsall also missed nearly half of the regular season due to injuries. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk also ended up missing the entire season as he attempted to make a comeback from ACL and MCL injuries suffered last season, and defensive lineman Nick Bosa suffered a season-ending ACL injury all the way back in week 3 of the NFL season.

In fact, one study found that the San Francisco 49ers are the most-injured team in the NFL over the past decade. And recently, an interesting theory has been going viral to explain why…

A self-described scientist and EMF (electromagnetic field) researcher named Peter Cowan recently shared his theory that the injuries to the 49ers are actually explained by the fact that the team’s practice facility and stadium sit beside a large electrical substation.

According to Cowan, consistent exposure to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields is “degrading the collagen integrity in the players tendons, ligaments, and muscle-tendon junctions. The damage is subtle, until a routine cut or block ends in catastrophic rupture.”

The theory has been largely dismissed by doctors, but apparently NFL players are growing concerned enough about it that they’re reaching out to their agents.

In a report from the Washington Post, a third of the agents who spoke with the newspaper had heard from clients who were concerned about the power plant – with some even saying that it was a big enough issue that it may hurt the team when it comes to recruiting and retaining players.

One agent said that the team is going to need to move their practice facility to alleviate player concerns, while one agent even appeared to be bought into the theory himself:

“There is something there. Always wondered why my guys would take longer to heal [in San Francisco]. Then read this and makes sense.”

And after Kittle’s latest injury though, it seems that people might be buying into the explanation…

Following last weekend’s game, 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was asked about Kittle’s injury and joked that it was “that power plant.”

And fans think it’s time to start taking a hard look into whether there might be something behind the conspiracy theory:

Now, could the injuries be explained by 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and his aggressive practice style? Or the expansion of the NFL schedule to 17 games back in 2021? Possibly.

The 49ers are also going to be forced to play on only 6 days rest this week as they take on the Seattle Seahawks next Saturday.
