“I’ve Never Seen The Show”: New Cast Member Kam Patterson Roasts SNL In Controversial Stand-Up Set

Saturday Night Live cast member Kam Patterson had a lot to say about SNL during a recent stand-up set.
Most of the time, comedians and actors and stand-ups who have been lucky enough to be a part of NBC’s comedy program have nothing but good things to say. The sketch show that has aired for over 50 years has birthed countless comedic stars, and though many have admitted that their time on SNL was stressful, they are normally grateful for getting to be a part of it.
Current cast member Kam Patterson doesn’t necessarily feel that way.
The 26-year-old joined the cast in 2025 after his stand-up and online presence impressed Saturday Night Live. He’s been used sparsely throughout Season 51 (that’s normal for newcomers), and in reality, the most the world has heard from him actually came through a different entertainment avenue: a Netflix special called Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas.
It was during that special that Patterson stood up on stage and told everyone how he really feels about SNL. Considering how historical and revered the sketch comedy show is in the comedy world, it was a little shocking (but also very funny) to hear a current cast member say this about Saturday Night Live:
“You know what’s crazy? I think people are more excited for me than I am for myself though. People keep saying, ‘Congratulations’, ‘Good job’ and ‘That’s dope.’ But understand something, bro. I’m 26, and I’m Black. I’ve never seen the show. I have no idea what the f*** I signed up for, dog. I’m kind of just there.
And, listen, this s*** is not for me, it’s for white people. They have on celebrities I’ve never heard of in my life. We had on Glen Powell at one point, and I was like, ‘Who is that?’ And they was like, ‘He was in Top Gun,‘ and I was like, ‘Never seen it!’ And then we had on Miles Teller, and I was like, ‘Who is that?’ And they was like, ‘He was in Top Gun.'”
Most SNL cast members who make the cut and join the cast say that they grew up watching the show… Patterson is saying he’s never even seen a second of it.
And if you thought Kam saying Saturday Night Live wasn’t for him was crazy, just wait until you hear how he described the sketch show:
“I’m gonna be honest, I’m gonna keep it 100-percent with y’all. In the nicest way possible, it’s gay. It’s really gay, dog. It’s gay as f***. Understand something, I was on national television doing this. *does weird hand gesture while smiling* I’ve shot at somebody before. You understand me? You understand how crazy that change is in life?”
Absolutely hilarious, and quite the interesting perspective coming from a current SNL cast member. Most of the time, it’s only after cast members leave the show that they kind of air out the dirty laundry – whether personal or from the show as a whole – that surrounds the long running sketch comedy program.
I wonder how SNL creator and producer Lorne Michaels feels about this stand-up set from one of his cast members that’s basically bashing Saturday Night Live:
At least this clip was sorta funny:
