Move over, Megan Moroney.

In addition to being labeled as the savior of traditional country music, Zach Top has proven himself as the quintessential human jukebox when it comes to delivering phenomenal covers of different songs across multiple eras. From Chris Stapleton’s “Nobody to Blame” and Billy Currington’s “Good Directions” to George Strait’s “Nobody In His Right Mind Would Have Left Her” and Conway Twitty’s “Slow Hand,” the Washington Native has yet to meet a classic song that he cannot perform flawlessly.

Over the weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, at the KFC Yum! Center, Top treated a few lucky fans who purchased VIP passes to a pre-show soundcheck and delivered an intimate acoustic set consisting of his underrated 2023 single, “Justa Jonesin’,” the old gospel classic, “I Saw The Light” and most notably, a cover of Toby Keith’s hit 2002 single, “Who’s Your Daddy?”

Over the past year, Keith’s “Who’s Your Daddy?” was repopularized and further reintroduced to younger audiences thanks to Megan Moroney’s viral cover of it on Apple Music’s exclusive tribute EP back in July 2024, along with the likes of Ella Langley’s equally as viral cover of “Wish I Didn’t Know Now.”

Of course, “Who’s Your Daddy?” was written solely by Keith and released on August 19, 2002, as the second single from his Unleashed album. It became a huge hit, peaking at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, becoming his sixth consecutive single to top the chart. It also became a minor crossover hit when it peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

It should go without saying that “Who’s Your Daddy?” has remained one of the most popular and beloved tracks in the late legends’ iconic discography over the years, receiving a gold certification from the RIAA in August 2023 and racking up over 57 million streams on Spotify alone as of today. With all of that being said, it’s never an easy task to deliver a cover of such a popular song from a beloved (and now dearly missed) artist such as Keith.

In typical Top fashion, he absolutely crushes the acoustic cover. With the incredible amount of buzz and hype surrounding him on nearly every corner of the country music scene online, it’s often tempting to want to push back and doubt whether the whole “savior of country music” title is truly fitting. However, the quality of his first two studio albums, coupled with the downright uncanny ability to nail every cover from a wide range of eras in the genre, makes the “savior” title more valid with every passing day.

If you’re a fan of Top and Toby, you won’t want to miss this one.
