Ole Miss Player Brutally Slams Lane Kiffin After Sugar Bowl Win Over Georgia: “Trying To Be A Troll”

Doing just fine without him.
If you missed the Sugar Bowl last night, you missed out on the best College Football Playoff game of the season so far. Ole Miss took on Georgia at the Superdome in New Orleans in a game that was an instant classic, with the Bulldogs taking a 9-point lead into halftime. But the Rebels managed to come back and tie it up before hitting a game-winning field goal with just a few seconds left on the clock.
Some chaos unfolded at the end, with Georgia making a desperate attempt at a comeback when they got the ball back with 9 seconds left in the game. The Bulldogs ended up giving up a safety as time appeared to expire, but after a review the officials determined that there was one second left on the clock. That meant Georgia had to free kick the ball to Ole Miss, a play that should have all but guaranteed the end of the game since Ole Miss would then have the ball and the lead.
But somehow Georgia managed to recover the free kick, and because the kicking team recovered, that meant there was still one second left on the clock.
The Bulldogs then tried to lateral the ball down the field for a touchdown, but Ole Miss eventually stopped the play and secured the win – for real this time – after the stage for the trophy presentation had been wheeled out onto the field and taken back to the sideline twice already.
Ole Miss will now face Miami in the Fiesta Bowl next Thursday, an incredible run for a team that lost their head coach at the end of the regular season.
Of course everybody knows about the nasty breakup between Ole Miss and former head coach Lane Kiffin, who left immediately following the regular season to take the head coaching job at LSU. Kiffin wanted to stay and coach the playoffs, but Ole Miss told him to kick rocks and instead named defensive coordinator Pete Golding as their new head coach – a decision that seems to be paying off for them so far in the playoffs.
Ahead of the game, it was reported that Kiffin may have been planning on attending the Sugar Bowl with Louisiana governor Jeff Landry, and it was also reported that he had even gone so far as to ask ESPN to have him on the broadcast.
Well apparently ESPN wanted no part of it, because Kiffin eventually decided to stay in Baton Rouge and attend an LSU women’s basketball game, forcing him to watch his former team advance to the semifinals without him on TV.
And after the game, his former players weren’t exactly upset that Kiffin wasn’t in the building.
According to ESPN, Ole Miss senior defensive tackle Zxavian Harris didn’t hold back when asked about his now-former coach wanting to appear on television during their game:
“Yeah, he was just trying to steal our shine. That’s all he’s trying to do. That’s all he’s been trying to do is steal our shine…
Like a slap and the backhand. He was trying to be a troll. We’re going to troll him. We got something for him.”
Clearly still some hard feelings there…
While Ole Miss was obviously thrilled to stay alive in the playoffs, the situation could become even more messy as it’s been reported that a decision hasn’t been made on whether the offensive coaches, most of whom are joining Kiffin at LSU but have continued to coach Ole Miss through the playoffs, will be allowed to stay with the team for the Fiesta Bowl.
Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator George McDonald, and running backs coach Kevin Smith are all leaving Oxford to join Kiffin’s staff at LSU, and according to sources it’s creating some tension at Ole Miss – and allegations of tampering with the transfer portal set to open today.
It remains to be seen who all will be on the sideline when Ole Miss takes on Miami, but one thing’s clear: Kiffin won’t be there, and from the sound of it, his former players don’t want him there anyway. The post Ole Miss Player Brutally Slams Lane Kiffin After Sugar Bowl Win Over Georgia: “Trying To Be A Troll” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
