Back in September, Zach Bryan played his highly anticipated “Big House” show, and boy did it deliver. The country music star – along with John Mayer, Ryan Bingham and the Texas Gentlemen and Joshua Slone – set a new record for largest ticketed concert attendance in U.S. history. There were 112,000 fans in the stands of the University of Michigan’s Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, which in case you didn’t know, is the largest stadium in America (and third largest in the world).
Zach Bryan sold out the stadium in a matter of hours when the show was announced.
It was a legitimate, record-setting performance, and a momentous occasion for Zach Bryan in his career. The “Big House” concert acted as a milestone for the country star’s rocket-ride of a career, and it also allowed for Zach to look back on what it took to get there and stand in front of over 100,000 fans.
One way he looked back on his journey to that stage was to include “Starved” in the setlist. The song stands as a fan favorite, and was released by Bryan as a single (along with a demo and a “Live from Detroit” version) in 2022. It was also included in his 24 (Live) album, which conglomerated live performances from his 2024 Quittin’ Time Tour and featured “Starved (Live from Sacramento).”
If you call yourself a fan of Zach Bryan, you’ve definitely sang along to the chorus that goes like this:
“We’re layin’ on the roof of my car
Feelin’ young, feelin’ numb, feelin’ starved Of all the things that a moment can be This one’s best kept a memory The purest parts of my heart are you and me”I’d say that line about “this one’s best kept a memory” was special to Bryan that night, since he undoubtedly wanted to make sure he remembered and cherished his record-breaking moment.
Before he got into the song during the concert, Bryan addressed the crowd and revealed how meaningful it was to him to feature it in the setlist. Zach also thanked every person that was there in attendance for helping him get to where he was that night, and said it wouldn’t have been right to exclude “Starved” from the “Big House” show:
“So about three years ago, I played this song in a 1,000 cap venue in Detroit, Michigan. The times have changed and I feel like the most blessed man on the planet, so thank you guys for doing that for me. I can’t believe we’re here. It felt wrong not to play this tonight.”
Yeah… saying times have changed might be an understatement. To go from a 1,000-cap venue to a concert for 112,000 people (in just a matter of a couple of years) is quite the accomplishment. And “Starved” was a bit of a through-line for both shows, which clearly meant a lot for the country music superstar.
