IS IT FINALLY HAPPENING? IS THIS REAL LIFE?
In the dead of the night at 1 am on June 11th, Tyler Childers wiped his Instagram page of all previous posts and released a teaser clip. Childers is not a big poster on Instagram or any of his other forms of social media, but as we have seen him do in the past, a good, clear out of his feed means that he’s gearing up to unveil a new project.
We know that Childers has been in the studio working with the legendary Rick Ruben on a new record. According to RCA Chairman and CEO Peter Edge, it’s one of the projects he is most excited about at the label, and it should be coming out in the next few months.
“I’m really excited about Tyler Childers’ new album, which is produced by Rick Rubin. He defies expectations, and this new album goes even further. The great thing about Tyler is that he does it the way he wants to do it. He’s playing giant venues, and he’s making the music he wants to make.”
Little other information was given about the timing of the record’s release, what fans can expect, and more. However, given that Rick Ruben is a mastermind of a producer, his superpower is crafting a cohesive tracklist, often pushing the artist to consider a different perspective or work outside their comfort zone, I’d expect this record to show a different side of Childers’ sound… or at least, song selection.
And it appears we might get a preview for what’s in store for this record sooner than we thought, as Tyler Childers shared a teaser clip indicating that he’s gifting fans something tomorrow. Yes, folks, tomorrow.
“June 12, 8am ET.”
That’s all he wrote in the caption of the post.
While I doubt Childers would release a whole surprise record, I think we are in store for a single, and if this teaser is any indication of what that single is, lovers of unreleased Timmy Ty songs are clicking their heels.
In the clip’s visuals, a man is at a barber shop finishing his haircut and chatting with the barber.
“Well, the boys called a meeting at the hunting club. Said to dress my best and clean myself up some, so came to get my ears lowered, you know?”
He tells the barber after he asks what brought him in. After the man plays and walks out of the barber shop, he hums to himself and calls out for “Oneida.” Another Tyler Childers fan favorite that never got a formal release, “Nose On The Grindstone,” is playing in the background.
Does this mean we are FINALLY getting a studio version of “Oneida” tomorrow? Is Tyler Childers taking us on a wild ride and leading our minds astray? Does this mean that “Oneida” is on this record, but not necessarily what is coming out tomorrow?
After I watched the clip, all these questions began racing through my mind, and excitement quickly began to build as I considered what this meant.
If Tyler Childers does release “Oneida” tomorrow, I might have to declare that day a national holiday. We have been waiting for that one (along with many others) to be released for years.
Turn it up.
Many other fans also feel we could be gifted with “Oneida” tomorrow.
Check out a few comments left on the post before you go. Even Flatland Cavalry and Margo Price dropped a “Let’s Go!” on the post.
“WHAT IF IT’S A THROWBACK ALBUM. ALL OF HIS UNRELEASED MUSIC…… That would be awesome!”
“It’s happening, y’all stay calm. It’s happening!”
“What does this video mean, Timmy?”
“LFG finally!!!”
“Why is ‘Nose to the Grindstone’ playing in the backgroundddddddd.”
“Never thought the Oneida day would come.”
“So excited right now.”
“AND I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA HAVE A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP.”
“If this isn’t a sign to text ur ex, idk what is.”
“I used to pray for times like this.”
“Literally the first thing I see when I open my eyes, god, what a good day to be alive.”
“That song about loving older ladies? PLEASE LORD.”
That last comment is about how I feel in this moment. 8 am EST on June 12th can’t come soon enough.
He also dropped a Hickman Holler Hunting Club Instagram account in the past week, where fans can sign up and pre-save this upcoming project:
