Pure and simple perfection.

Muscadine Bloodline is gearing up to hit the road on their Long Leaf Lo-Fi tour, which will kick off in Durham, North Carolina this Friday night. So of course, Gary and Charlie had to share a very fitting cover of James Taylor’s iconic hit “Carolina in My Mind” before they head to both the Tar Heel state and the Palmetto state.

Of course, “Carolina in My Mind” was written by James Taylor and released as the second single from his 1968 self-titled debut album. He actually wrote it while in England recording for the Beatles’ label Apple Records, where he obviously found himself very homesick at the time.

The song was officially released as a single in 1969, though it didn’t see a ton of commercial success at the time. Years later, it was re-recorded for Taylor’s 1976 Greatest Hits album as a live version, and has become a staple at his concerts and one of his most beloved songs. It’s also one of the most covered contemporary folk songs of all time, as artists like John Denver have done successful cover versions of it as well.

Being from North Carolina, this song has always held a special place in my heart, though it is true that I can only really listen to it if I’m back home… otherwise, that feeling of homesickness Taylor felt when penning it is too overwhelming for me and I will probably cry. It’s tricky in that way, but that’s what makes it such a special song.

I think that feeling is universal, no matter which state or country you come from, and the country twang courtesy of Muscadine Bloodline with their acoustic rendition is just beautiful. In the caption, they said that they probably be “playing some James Taylor” this weekend in the Carolinas (they also have a show in Charleston if you’re in the area),

@muscadinebloodline Heading to the Carolinas this weekend to start an acoustic tour. Will probably be playing some James Taylor! #acoustic #harmony #singer #cover #carolina ♬ original sound – Muscadine Bloodline

If you’ll be anywhere near them for their stops in the Carolinas, or anywhere else on this tour, don’t miss the chance to see Muscadine Bloodline in person… they put on one of the best live shows in the business.

And they’ve been releasing a ton of music over the last couple years, from 2024’s The Coastal Plain, as well as two albums last year in …And What Was Left Behind and the record named for this tour Longleaf Lo-Fi, which is a stripped back acoustic album.

These new songs with the acoustic production will make for some really special shows, and if you haven’t already checked out the album, you’re missing out.
