Even bald eagles clean up after dinner.

Anyone that has cooked a big meal (anything requiring more than three or four pots and pans) knows the dreaded duty of doing the dishes after dining. There’s nothing like chowing down on a home-cooked meal, but there’s nothing worse than pulling dish duty on a stuffed stomach.

If it makes you feel any better though, wild animals sometimes have to do the same.

This female bald eagle in Alaska made sure to get everything nice and tidy after eating a freshly caught fish for dinner. That being said, it didn’t have any dishes or a table to get back in order. The only thing it had to worry about was one of the utensils it utilizes when digging into fish: its beak.

In case you didn’t know, the predatory birds are very opportunistic and will hunt anything that it feels as though it could haul off. That usually means that bald eagles prey on smaller mammals (like squirrels) and transportable fish. That being said, a bald eagle’s menu can consist of both big and small items.

They’ll go for things as tiny as little yappy dogs, and in the right conditions, they’ll try to tackle something as big as a deer. Rarely ever do the eagle-eyed birds of prey have trouble hunting something down… it’s just picking that something up that can complicate things.

Sometimes, in order to avoid having to haul the dinner anywhere, they’ll just eat on whatever they catch right on the spot. It seems as though that’s what this female bald eagle decided to do after she got her talons around a fish. Chances are she swooped down from great heights and yanked the fish right out of the water. That, or the sharp-taloned bird crashed down on the prey and managed to pull it to the shore so that dinner could be served.

After she ate on the fresh seafood (as fresh as it gets), the bird that also acts as an American symbol located some moving water to use to clean itself. If you’ve never seen a bald eagle get tidied up, wildlife photographer Mark Bouldoukian captured this majestic video and shared it to his profile (which includes a multitude of other, breathtaking photos and videos) for everyone to enjoy.

The bald eagle intelligently uses the running water to get her beak rinsed off, shaking and tilting so that every part of it was submerged. After it was done washing up, the predatory bird stood tall once more, and even looked right into the lens of the camera that Bouldoukian had pointed at her. It’s a beautiful clip, and one that showcases one of the more mundane-yet-impress moments in nature.

What a stunning video, eh?

Granted, it’s not a high-stakes fight in the outdoors, or footage of a bald eagle swooping down from hundreds of feet in the air to secure its prey. But somehow, it’s still the type of video that’ll make you stop in your tracks. Nature can be a brutal place, but it can also be a beautiful one… and good luck finding a more exquisite create than a bald eagle. The post WATCH: Majestic Bald Eagle Meticulously Cleans Its Beak After A Successful Alaskan Hunt first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
