Over the past year, Riley Green has taken the genre by storm. Between scoring hits with tracks such as “Jesus Saves” and “Worst Way,” the countless headlines around his dating life and his appearance alongside Ella Langley on her ACM Award-winning, nearly inescapable track, “you look like you love me,” the Alabama native has seemingly been everywhere lately.
This is also thanks in part to the success of his 2024 album, Don’t Mind If I Do, which spawned the aforementioned singles and ended up earning him a gold certification from the RIAA last week. Following the success of the album, Green decided to treat fans to a deluxe edition of the hit record, which is slated to be released next Friday, August 29.
Featuring six new songs, the deluxe edition will contain appearances from both Randy Houser on “Cowboy As It Gets” and Hannah McFarland on “I Just Need You.” Additionally, the fan-favorite track, “Make It Rain,” will also finally be getting an official release, and fans are pumped.
In case you forgot, Green teased the song acoustically on Instagram all the way back on February 25th, and it quickly went viral. With 1.9 million views, 129,000 likes and over 2,400 comments on Instagram alone, fans were all but begging for an official release. Couple that with the fact that Green has frequently been playing it throughout his Damn Country Music Tour, it became nothing short of a must-have on the deluxe record for many.
Today, Green took to Instagram once again to share a studio version of “Make It Rain”, and it sounds like an absolute heartbreak heater from the “Don’t Mind If I Do” singer. Keeping the production fairly minimal, it seems as if he’s stripping the track down with nothing more than an acoustic guitar and some nice inclusion of steel present as well. The lyrics themself also show Green’s continued improvement as a songwriter, grappling with the fact that he ruined another relationship in the chorus where he sings:
“I can make it rain
I can make her tears fall down
Take everything we used to be
And leave it puddled up on the ground
Yeah, I can make it flood
And watch it wash it all away
Take all our love
And pour it down the drain
Yeah, I can make it rain
I can make it rain…”
With the top comment comparing it to vintage Tim McGraw, it looks like Green has another smash hit on the horizon when it officially releases next Friday.
