Report: Premier League club line up move for £19million Arsenal midfielder

Arsenal have made lots of signings so far this summer, but before they make any more, they may need to shift some players.

Interest in the fringe players appears to be limited, but progressing. Reiss Nelson looks set to join Fulham and now, according to Ben Jacobs, West Ham United are considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira. The Gunners are open to selling the 25-year-old, who has struggled for consistency since his £30million arrival from FC Porto in 2022.

Vieira has shown glimpses of technical quality and creativity but has failed to cement a regular spot under Mikel Arteta. With Arsenal’s current squad depth, a departure seems increasingly likely. The club now boasts a wealth of talent operating in the zones Vieira prefers — particularly on the right side. Bukayo Saka is a guaranteed starter, and the rise of young attacking midfielders like Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman, alongside more senior figures like Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz, leaves Vieira firmly on the fringes.

Vieira, signed for £30million, has seen his value drop, with transfermarkt now valuing him at £19million. Arsenal will hope to get as close to the amount paid as possible.

Arsenal’s new-look squad under Andrea Berta is leaning into a faster, more physical, and tactically versatile identity — traits that Vieira has struggled to consistently demonstrate. With West Ham seeking added creativity behind their forward line, Vieira could be an intriguing solution at a cut-price fee.

Nottingham Forest could also be interested. The Midlands club are targeting a creative midfielder and have reportedly shown interest in Manchester City’s James McAtee. However, a move for Vieira could make sense — particularly given that Edu Gaspar, now leading transfer activity at Forest, was the architect behind Vieira’s move to the Emirates two years ago.

Forest’s need for a technical playmaker is pressing, and a reunion with Edu could offer Vieira a fresh start and regular football, especially if the McAtee deal proves difficult to conclude.
