With Jakub Kiwior believed to be close to an Arsenal exit, the Gunners could be about to make another significant sale before the window shuts.
Crystal Palace are in negotiations with Arsenal over the potential signing of Reiss Nelson for a fee of around £15million, according to The Sun.
.
Nelson, now 25, is no longer considered a youngster breaking through at the Emirates, and Arsenal are prepared to let him leave in order to trim both the squad and the wage bill. The winger is reportedly on £100,000 per week, a salary that has become difficult to justify given his limited game time and position in the pecking order.
The Gunners’ summer signings have only added to Nelson’s challenges. The arrivals of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze mean competition for wide roles is fiercer than ever, and Mikel Arteta’s plans appear to be moving in a new direction. Despite showing flashes of talent over the years, Nelson has never fully established himself as a regular starter at Arsenal, and this window may finally bring an end to his long association with the club.
For Palace, the move makes plenty of sense. Oliver Glasner has been working with a depleted, stretched squad since the start of the campaign, and the departure of Eze has only amplified their need for attacking reinforcements. Nelson, with his Premier League experience and versatility across the frontline, could offer exactly the kind of option they need.
At £15million, the deal looks like it could suit all parties. Arsenal would secure a fee for a player who has slipped down the order, Palace would add much-needed depth, and Nelson himself would have the opportunity for a fresh start and regular football.
Arsenal are also hoping to seal a £24million deal with FC Porto for Kiwior and raise more from late sales or loans for Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Albert Sambi Lokonga – taking their transfer income to excess of £50million this summer – helping to supplement an expected cost of £300million, if Piero Hincapie comples his expected move to The Emirates.
If the transfer goes through, it would mark the end of Nelson’s decade-long Arsenal journey, with the Hale End graduate set to take on a new chapter in South London.
