It has been a frantic summer at Arsenal as Andrea Berta has made his mark on the club’s transfer business. The new Head of Recruitment has overseen a dramatic overhaul of Mikel Arteta’s squad, with big-money arrivals, bargain opportunities, and some ruthless exits.

The Gunners have spent heavily to address key areas, while also tying down important players to new contracts. Still, there remains work to be done when it comes to maximising sales revenue – an area where Arsenal will hope to improve in future windows.

The big statement came with the double £60m signings of Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze, who instantly add quality and tactical flexibility in midfield and attack. Arsenal also added firepower with Viktor Gyökeres at £56m, while Noni Madueke’s £48m move from Chelsea gives Arteta another explosive wide option.

At the back, Cristhian Mosquera (£13m) and Cristian Nørgaard (£9.5m) brought depth and versatility, while Berta cleverly snapped up Kepa Arrizabalaga for just £5m. The loan capture of Piero Hincapié, which includes a £42m option (basically obligation) to buy, could prove shrewd business given the Ecuadorian’s profile. In total, the incomings have cost £251.5m – with that figure rising if Hincapié’s move becomes permanent.

On the outgoing side, Arsenal have been less successful in terms of raising significant fees. Jakub Kiwior left on loan to Porto, which will likely bring in £24m come next summer when it is made permanent, but most other departures have generated modest sums. Nuno Tavares (£5m) and Marquinhos (£2.5m) were moved on permanently, while Albert Sambi Lokonga joined Hamburg for a rumoured £10m.

Several senior players were released, including Thomas Partey, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jorginho, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira both left on loan with small fees attached. Academy keeper Karl Hein also departed on a temporary basis. That leaves Arsenal banking £21.5m so far, with a potential £44m more if clauses are triggered. A significant wage expenditure will have been cleared with these departures.

All in all, it has been a defining summer for Arsenal’s project. Andrea Berta has shown his qualities in getting ambitious deals across the line and ensuring Arteta has the tools to compete. The squad is now younger, more dynamic, and brimming with competition. The next step will be converting surplus assets into meaningful sales, ensuring that the spending power remains strong for future windows.
