Randy Rogers Band Enlists Parker McCollum For Certified Heartbreaker, “Is This Thing Workin'”

Teaming up with his old mentor for a new one.

Parker McCollum has been busy these days. He’s gearing up to release his fifth studio record, PARKER MCCOLLUM, due everywhere on June 27th. And while he’s got a packed schedule with shows, press, and dad duties, he’s still managing to squeeze in time for some old friends.

Parker McCollum was called on by his old manager and friend,  Randy Rogers, to be a feature on their new song, and he rose to the occasion. Out everywhere now, Randy Rogers Band released their second single of 2025, “Is This Thing Workin’,” featuring Parker McCollum.

The union of Randy Rogers and Parker McCollum on a single, and the first time they’ve ever collaborated musically, was a long time coming. Randy Rogers managed in the early days of his career. After McCollum released his debut album, The Limestone Kid, Rogers took him under his wing and guided him through his breakout album, Probably Wrong. 

Years after the fact, McCollum is still grateful for Rogers’s guidance and support. In a 2024 appearance on the Jarrod Morris Vibe Podcast, he shared that Rogers was “instrumental” in him reaching his goals.

“My goals, I still have the emails. Randy will send them to me. Every now and then, he would make me email him, or he would make me write down or type out my goals. You know, one was like, I think I put a tour bus on my ten-year goal. And I had a tour bus eighteen months later. No record deal, no nothing.

He was really, really instrumental in me kind of looking at that and thinking about the long game.”

Now, McCollum is returning the favor (kind of) as he supports Randy Rogers and the band on his newest track, “Is This Thing Workin’.” The certified Texas heartbreaker follows a man who has been overserved and brokenhearted and is handed a microphone. The man begins rambling into the microphone, hoping that his words might get back to the woman he desires, but he knows it’s a long shot.

“Is this thing workin’
Is this thing on
I’ve been drinkin’ all day long
Am I cuttin’ through your atmosphere
Am I comin’ through loud and clear
Who the hell gave me a microphone
Is this thing workin’…”

The two men’s vocals shine when paired together, and the slight grit on the production brings the confused lyrics to life.
