The radio host’s comments evidently hit a nerve.
It’s the NFL offseason, so you know what that means? Fans and critics are having to really scrape the bottom of the barrel with their NFL takes, because there’s not really much to go off of. NFL news is a lot easier to come by when there’s actual football being played.
But Kansas City based podcast and radio host Kevin Kietzman got creative earlier this week, and decided to make his own news. The host of Kevin Kietzman Has Issues saw shirtless photos of Patrick Mahomes from the 4th of July weekend and opted to rip into his physique, saying:
“Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes and he’s fat. I’m gonna say it and I’m gonna tell you the truth, that’s why you hit the play button. He’s an embarrassment. You’re a $500 million quarterback. You’ve made all these comments in the offseason that, ‘We’re gonna do our talking on the field. We got our butts kicked in the Super Bowl. We’re coming back with a vengeance.’
Dude, you’re fat. Your belly would be fat at my pool, hanging out with us 60-year-olds. Stop. Stop the fast food. Do a sit-up. Do something… there’s no training to this man. I don’t understand it. He’s not a kid anymore. You can’t just run through your NFL career eating Taco Bell all the time… You’ve got a $500 million contract. It’s your job. He’s done nothing but eat and drink this offseason. It’s time, dude. It’s time.”
Oh boy.
This isn’t the first time that Patrick Mahomes has been called out about his “Dad Bod.” Back in 2024, a not-so-flattering angle of him shirtless in the locker room went viral, and he had to come out and defend having “extra padding” around his torso. That time things were more playful… this time around? Kevin Kietzman made things personal.
So personal, in fact, that Mahomes’ trainer Bobby Stroupe felt the need to defend his QB client online. The messages he sent out on X have since been deleted, but Stroupe was not going to take the physique slander of Mahomes laying down. Stroupe sent out somewhat of a threat to Kietzman, and also attempted to explain to him why the Kansas City star doesn’t need a six-pack:
“Send me your location. You obviously need attention. If you want to see what in shape is — go make it through a practice at Saint Jo or run hurry up offense scrambling back to back to back plays. You don’t have a clue what it takes. It’s not a look, it’s performance.”
Man, that “send me your location” is wild. He was trying to settle things right here, right now. That’s probably why Stroupe ultimately deleted that post defending Mahomes.
But funny enough, Kevin Kietzman didn’t back down from his comments. He stands by his opinion that Mahomes should be in better shape, especially as he gets into the later part of his career (this is Year 9 in the NFL for Patrick Mahomes, believe it or not).
Kietzman shared this message on his website:
“It’s always silly when somebody says something true and it creates a controversy. Patrick Mahomes has belly fat. He’s also changed the way the game is played and is the greatest player of his generation. Reaction to my buried in the back of the podcast comments Monday went viral after Mahomes’ trainer came after me on social media.
He’s the first trainer in history to argue that belly fat is a good thing and, like a great Democrat politician, the fanatics actually believe him. It’s your option to find it charming and good… it’s my job to point out the belly fat will be gone someday when Mahomes gets serious like other athletes in their 30’s.”
Personally, I think Mahomes is doing just fine with the body that he’s got (three Super Bowls at age 30 isn’t bad). I’d hate to see Six-Pack-Patty reach another level of NFL quarterbacking, and make the next decade a bore for other NFL teams that are hopefully of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. The post Radio Host Doubles Down After Patrick Mahomes’ Trainer Defends The QB’s Physique: “First Trainer In History To Argue Belly Fat Is A Good Thing” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
