Rest in peace, The Prince of Darkness.

Ozzy Osbourne, rock and roll legend, has passed away at the age of 76. Osbourne’s family shared a statement this morning with fans and the public, stating that the “Crazy Train” singer took his final breaths surrounded by family.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family’s privacy at this time.

Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

Ozzy Osbourne was a masterful songwriter, a boundary pusher, and a mentor to many artists throughout his career, both directly and indirectly. It’s safe to say that Ozzy Osbourne has influenced artists in the rock and roll genre, and well beyond it. Carrie Underwood is one country music star who fell in love with Prince of Darkness’ music from a young age, recalling that she was able to see past the heavy guitar riffs to hear the loving lyrics and profound messages.

However, not that many artists in the country music world can say they have collaborated with the “Crazy Train” singer, except for one: Post Malone.

Before crossing over into country music, Posty called on Ozzy to sing on his song “Take What You Want,” which also featured Travis Scott, and appeared on his Hollywood’s Bleeding record. Most of the time, artists can cut their respective vocal tracks without having to be in the same location. So even though Post Malone had the honor of having Ozzy on one of his songs, they did not meet until the song was already released.

In 2019, after the release of Hollywood’s Bleeding, Post Malone met the rock and roll legend for the first time, ahead of performing their song live at The Forum. In Post Malone’s documentary, Post Malone: Runaway, footage shows the moment when the two met right before taking the stage together.

Post Malone recalls being extremely nervous before meeting Ozzy, but not as anxious as he was when performing with him.

“I was nervous meeting him. Not as much performing, meeting him is terrifying. Because, you know, what the f*** do you say to Ozzy Osbourne? You know? I like your pants, I don’t know. You have no idea what the f*** to say to him.

It’s mind-blowing, it’s absolutely f****** mind-blowing that, you know, being able to work with one of the biggest dudes in the f****** rock and roll history.”

I mean, Posty’s not wrong… what do you say to one of the most iconic men in rock and roll history? I can also see what he means by the performance wasn’t as scary. When you’re on stage, your natural instinct as an artist kicks in, and you’re there to work, not chop it up.

Post Malone is fortunate to have had the honor of meeting, performing with, and collaborating with Ozzy Osbourne.

Rest in Peace to the Prince of Darkness.
