Live from the Comedy Mothership.

Oliver Anthony is on another rollercoaster ride after the release of his single “Scornful Woman.” The tune shares the bitter pain of divorce, and Anthony’s words strike like a hot knife, as you can hear the pain in his voice as he delivers the words.

When “Scornful Woman” was released, it was unclear if this story was fact or fiction, but Joe Rogan confirmed on his podcast that the lyrics highlight the horrific divorce between Anthony and his wife. And he did not spare any details:

“He starts making millions of dollars, playing arenas. The wife divorces him. She wants everything. She wants EVERYTHING. She wants more than half. She wants all the money he’s going to be making in the future because she was with him when he was broke. It’s f***** crazy. He’s just tortured. He wants to die. Wants to die… and writes this song.”

Anthony later appeared on an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience and gave some vague details about a very dark time in his life, but fans can read between the lines, picking up what he’s alluding to.

“We had just gotten done with touring in 2024, well obviously things are what they are, but there were multiple, different negative things happening all at once, and I got in a post where I did my thing, where I sort of spiraled and was isolating myself. I spent a month-and-a-half or two months in that house. I didn’t do Thanksgiving or Christmas last year. Just really didn’t hardly talk to anybody or anything. It was probably time to write a song like that.”

While this whole situation sounds horrible, emotionally taxing, and unpleasant, I hope that their children are not suffering from the divorce as well. But Anthony turned a bad situation into something good by putting pen to paper and expressing his feelings through song, bringing him another huge hit since his breakout single “Rich Men North Of Richmond.”

“Scornful Woman” quickly shot up the charts, charting at #1 on the iTunes rock charts and #6 on the iTunes all-genre chart. Oliver also announced that he would perform it live as his friend Joe opens the doors of his Austin, Texas, comedy club, the Comedy Mothership, to its first-ever musical show.

Oliver took to social media to deliver the news:

“I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me. I know I haven’t put a lot of music out since ‘Richmond’…. to be honest, I’ve spent the past 6 months trying to reverse all the mistakes I made with my business the first year and a half, so I wanna start actually having some fun.

Next weekend I’m doing the [Comedy] Mothership. Their first music show there ever. I’ll be hanging out with Joe Rogan, and who knows, there might be a camera there. Anything could happen.”

Fans were stoked to hear Anthony tease the possibility of a live record, or live concert recording, but didn’t want to get their hopes up. But now that the show has passed, fans can get their hopes up because Anthony confirmed that a live album is on the way.

After the show last night, Anthony took to social media to share with fans some images from the night and that the performance was a success. But he also dropped some huge news in the caption.

“The Mothership live album recording was a success!”

Hell yeah.

Anthony being the first musical performance at the Comedy Mothership and the first artist to release a record from there, is the definition of “the comeback is always greater than the setback.”

Wonder how that “Scornful Woman” feels now… well, I guess still pretty good if she’s getting more than half.

Here’s a clip that Rogan shared to his personal Instagram:
