New York Jets In Hot Water For Taking Back Opportunity From Female Fan To Kick For $100,000

No take backs… unless you are the New York Jets.

There’s not much to be excited about if you are a fan of “Gang Green.” The New York squad is 3-12 this year, and is about to close on yet another losing season. The only real bright spot was a kicking competition called “Kick for Cash” that was bringing some excitement to the tortured fanbase.

But now even that has been tarnished.

Ashley Castanio-Gervasi, a longtime fan of the New York Jets (the fandom was passed down by her late father) and season ticket holder, was supposed to have a chance to kick a field goal for $100,000 during Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium. But now, the Jets have informed her that she won’t be able to do so.

Why? Because the NFL organization discovered that Castanio-Gervasi is a soccer coach, and a former Division I college soccer player. The female fan is frustrated because it was the Jets that reached out to her to be a part of the kicking competition after they saw her kick during a tailgate event a couple of months ago. It was in September that she informed the Jets that she was a former soccer player, and current soccer coach.

The former Stony Brook University goalkeeper told The New York Post that the rule hangup the Jets are now communicating to her revolves around the fact that she’s a current coach:

“These two workers for the New York Jets kind of chased me down and invited me back to get into this competition. The one question I was asked was if I played college soccer, and how long ago…

This is life-changing money for me. I was confident I could have made it. This was the first time I was hearing of any of these (coaching) questions.”

Castanio-Gervasi has gone through all of the steps to reach the culmination of the “Kick for Cash” event. She made a 20-yard field goal back in October that secured her a spot to kick for $100,000. And it’s only now, as she was days away from getting her big shot, that the New York Jets informed the female fan that she can no longer participate.

The Jets provided this statement to The New York Post when asked about why they took back the opportunity from Castanio-Gervasi:

“In accordance with competition rules and regulations, one individual who successfully made the qualifying kick will not be able to advance to the final stage of the challenge. We understand the disappointment associated with this and have made an effort to provide an alternative benefit to show our appreciation.”

Rather unfortunate that Castanio-Gervasi – a math teacher and soccer coach in Long Island – won’t be able to kick for a chance to win six-figures. It’s even worse that the Jets basically recruited her to be a part of the contest, only to rip away the opportunity a couple of months later.

Leave it to the New York Jets to not only disappoint their fanbase with an abysmal football team, but also directly let a fan down by taking back a chance to win $100,000.The post New York Jets In Hot Water For Taking Back Opportunity From Female Fan To Kick For $100,000 first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
