Coming soon.
Just last week, Luke Combs premiered a new song and accompanying music for “Back in the Saddle,” which features NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Richard Petty. It’s the lead single from his forthcoming (unofficially announced) album, which was written alongside frequent collaborators Jonathan Singleton and The Brothers Hunt, and it’s a classic Luke Combs heater in every sense.
His most recent album, Fathers & Sons, was deeply personal, and he released it last year as more of a personal project than a major commercial endeavor, so it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a “regular,” if you will, record from him. Luke didn’t tour this record or anything like that, and it sounds like he’s gearing up to get back to his routine on tour and putting out new music in the not too distant future.
During an interview with Katie & Company, Luke revealed that he’s recorded over 30 songs for the new record, though he doubts they’ll all make the cut because he doesn’t necessarily plan on making a huge, 30+ album like has become the trend these days for his peers like Morgan Wallen:
“I’ve probably got one recording session left on it, but I’ve already recorded, I don’t know, over 30 songs I would think. I don’t know that there’s any plans to do, like, the big album thing. I just don’t know if I love that idea, you know.
There’s nothing against it, I mean, obviously it works really well, but I just don’t. I don’t know what it’s called yet… it’s hard to know without having everything recorded.”
He says he has all the songs he needs to put together a complete album, and it’s really starting to take shape. Luke says all the song are “really strong,” and he’s excited to give the fans some new music:
“Right now, we have the songs we need. Not particularly, honestly, yet that’s really presented itself. All my records of kind of been that way. I guess ‘This One’s For You’ maybe not as much, I knew that that was gonna be the title of that record. That was the easiest one. Obviously, your first album the easiest to make for sure.
But I think it’s yet to be figured out. I’m really stoked about everything that we’ve recorded. I think it’s really, really strong stuff. Obviously everyone says that about every album they’ve ever done, so take that with a grain of salt. It’s really just up to people out how good it is. But I’m really excited about it. I’m really stoked to be getting back into it.
I’ve taken you have so much time away from touring, I’m not really touring this year outside of festivals and stuff, so just having time at home and just being able to get a routine going and be back in the studio and focus on writing and focus on recording and focus on family. Then ext year, just jump back on the road and go full on back into it, it’s exciting.”
It sounds like he’s not quite ready to put out a release date considering he doesn’t have the title or full tracklist completed yet, but he’s getting close and hopefully we’ll get at least an announcement and some more details sometime this fall, because it sounds like he’s ready to get back into the swing of things ad head out on tour again next year.
I thought Fathers & Sons was a great, really touching and personal record, but I’ll be honest, I need a good ‘ol fashioned Luke album and it sounds like that’s what he’s putting together now, so stay tuned…
And if you haven’t checked out the music video for “Back in the Saddle,” you’ll certainly see several familiar faces:
