Luke Bryan has finally revealed the culprit of his canceled and rescheduled shows.
It was back in June (June 19 to be specific) when the 49-year-old country music singer stood in front of a crowd in Arkansas and apologized for his lack of voice. Bryan ultimately decided to finish the show, and generously refunded everyone in attendance. Following that show, Luke Bryan made the tough decision to suspend a portion of his Country Song Came On Tour.
He rescheduled shows in Dallas, Texas and LaFayette, Louisiana that were originally supposed to take place the weekend after his Arkansas show, and then had to also pull out of three different festival shows that he was booked for. Country Stampede, NEBRASKAland and Country Jam Colorado all went on without the singer as he was still on the mend.
Eric Church kindly stepped in for Luke during those dates:
Fortunately, Luke Bryan is now back on the road. But it did take him almost a month to feel well enough to return to the stage.
During his July 17 show in Greenville, South Carolina, the “Play It Again” singer revealed that the illness he’s been battling most of the summer is the one that shut the world down (*checks notes and can’t believe it’s been 5 years already*) in 2020. Now in 2025, it shut Luke Bryan down for a couple of weeks… but now he’s powering through it:
“Three weeks ago, I got COVID. You can boo that s*** all you want, but I got it. I had to cancel some shows, and now I’m back. But I’m not 100%, because it’s still kicking my a**. And you know what? I don’t give a s***. I’m not gonna let (it stop me). So when I can sing, I’m gonna sing. And when I can’t, y’all are gonna sing, alright?”
I’d venture to guess that country music fans would rather see their artist at less than 100% than not at all.
And to be clear, Luke Bryan isn’t close to feeling fully healthy at all. He’s evidently reached the end of the road with the medicine he was prescribed (that or he’s just tired of taking it), and in a show a couple of days later, he shared that he’s switched to tequila and vodka to help get him through.
Bryan has also made a point to inform crowds that they’ll see him cough and hack his way through his performances for the time being:
“Y’all are gonna see my hack. I can’t take anymore medicine. I can’t do anything else but just try to breathe. Anyways, we’re gonna have fun tonight. We’re gonna make the most of it.”
