Taking a break from being on the road.
Kat Hasty is making some big life changes, and is making them with her daughter at the center of them. The West Texas music mama, like many other Texas artists, has spent most of her young adulthood on the road trying to make a name for herself and to spread her music to her fans.
After releasing her debut record, Drowning In Dreams, fans were captivated by Hasty’s honest and raw songwriting, leading to demand for shows outside of the Lone Star State. Her rise in popularity has continued to grow over the years, with the release of two more records, Midland and The Time of Your Life. While Hasty has shared some wild stories on the road and lived life to the fullest while chasing her dream, she recently took some time to reflect and decided that touring that hard no longer serves her.
As a young mother, Hasty often brings her daughter Ava on the road with her, but she’s tired of her daughter missing out on growing up around family, friends, cousins, and more, so she has made the tough decision to stop touring on a major scale.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Hasty shares that his revelation happened over the 4th of July weekend:
“As I sat watching fireworks on the 4th of July, surrounded by family, holding my small child in my arms, it had never been more clear to me that the only place I belong is at home. By the end of this year, Ava will have been to 18 states. She’s done more traveling than most people around here do in a lifetime. We’ve missed so many weddings, and birthdays, and nights in the backyard that could’ve been spent with my nieces and nephews.
I want to restructure my life around working in the studio, writing songs, and maybe even doing something in the fashion sphere. I plan to still be at all the beloved festivals that we play every year and hanging around our Texas venues, but this will be my last out-of-state tour for the foreseeable future.”
Hasty concludes her post by sharing that her talented band members will now have some extra free time, and if anyone is in the market for a new bandmate, they are the folks you should be hitting up.
Mother of the Year.
Being a young mother is hard. However, being a young mother while trying to become a musician is even more challenging. This lifestyle is not for the weak, and this is not the first time that Hasty has addressed the struggles of being a mother while trying to chase your dreams.
In 2022, Hasty candidly talked about her struggles in a post sharing:
“When I found out I was pregnant, I felt like my life was over. Being a mother didn’t come natural to me, and that’s something I’m not ashamed to admit anymore. Letting go of selfish habits and prioritizing another life over your own is hard. Feeling like you’ve lost your identity to motherhood is hard.
But I am here to tell you, it is the most rewarding experience that this world has to offer. My dreams have changed. My dreams are bigger and better than I ever could’ve imagined at 22 years old.”
Kat Hasty is truly a phenomenal mother, and she always keeps Ava at the center of her decision-making is a testament to that.
While it’s heartbreaking for fans outside of Texas to hear that Hasty will no longer be visiting their state, the silver lining is that she promises to continue doing festivals and shows in Texas, so this announcement is far from a goodbye.
Kat Hasty has also tagged herself as a writer before anything, and tried and true fans know that she is a songbird like no other:
“All I ever wanted was to be a writer. Everything else was an afterthought.”
Hasty poetically spins love, heartache, and more into lyrics that get stuck in your head. We are confident that this next chapter will bring things to Hasty, and while the road will miss her, other doors are waiting to be flung open.
Before you go, fire up a few songs off her last record.
