Kaitlin Butts Put A Country Spin On Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” & It Just Works So Well
It just works. It just works.
Many non-country songs can make a stellar country cover, and it’s always fun to see an artist’s personal music taste seep into their sets when they choose to put a twang on a traditionally non-country tune.
Kaitlin Butts is one of those artists who often has fun at her shows, delivering covers of both classic country tunes and non-country tunes for her fans. Butts has a huge personality on stage, and when she covers songs out of her catalog, it brings even more of her personality to the microphone, giving fans a peek into what she’s jamming to.
Last year, Butts laid down a killer Chappell Roan cover when everyone and their mother was experimenting with her music during her height of fame. Silverada also delivered a great cover of “Good Luck, Babe,“ as did Josiah and the Bonnevilles.
It was such a fun surprise for fans to hear her cover of “Red Wine Supernova,” and Butts’ vocal talent shone so bright during the performance.
Chappell Roan was such a fun pop goes country cover, but it has nothing on the cover that Butts recently laid down. Rewind your clocks, folks, because this is a nostalgic classic.
During a recent show in Helotes, Texas, Kaitlin Butts put a country twist on a nostalgic classic, Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle.”
“The Middle” was released in October 2001 as the second single from their fourth album, Bleed American. The single was a massive hit for Jimmy Eat World and was their breakthrough single, putting them on the map internationally. “The Middle” reached the number-five position on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 2002 and reached the top 50 in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
Butts toned back the melody of “The Middle” during her performance of the tune, giving it an Americana flair. The song completely changes the tone from being a pop-punk classic to a song that gives listeners with a sense of hope and optimism who might be going through the ringer.
Vocally, Butts’ soft and tender delivery of the lyrics washes over you with a sense of calm, and it highlights the classic tune in a whole new light. While this version of “The Middle” is new and refreshing, you still want to scream out each and every word of the chorus with Butts like it’s done in the original recording.
“It just takes some time
Little girl, you’re in the middle of the ride Everything, everything’ll be just fine Everything, everything’ll be alright, alright”Something about this country take on the song works shockingly well, and feels like it was meant to be a country song all along. Pop punk and country music have a lot more in common than folks think, and Kaitlin Butts is proving that with this stellar performance.
