Shawn “Clown” Crahan Says Slipknot Plans to Begin Writing New Music Soon

It’s been almost four years since Slipknot released their most recent album The End, So Far back in 2022. Since then, they’ve gotten a new drummer, toured relentlessly in honor of the 25th anniversary of their self-titled album, and strung us along for yet another year about Look Outside Your Window. But it looks like the band might soon begin working on their next studio effort in the near future.

During a conversation with NME, M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan said though the band hasn’t fully begun collaborating on new music just yet, it’s coming soon. They just need to get through a bit of a break first.

“We’re doing the biggest thing we can do right now, which is taking a much-needed break. We’re taking some real human time. Everybody is writing all the time, but we have not got into a place to work on what’s been written.”

It’s been noted in the past that the writing process in Slipknot can be… contentious. So it’s understandable that maybe everyone wants to make sure they’re fully rested and relaxed before putting the gloves back on.

According to Crahan, the band currently has some plans in place for everyone to get back together in the studio later this month. Once there, they could begin cobbling together new material, stating that “everyone is looking forward to getting back at it.”

Once they start, this will be the first time the band will be writing new music after their long run with Roadrunner Records came to an end following the release of The End, So Far.

“I’m in the studio almost every week making music without any of the usual pressures or expectations, which is very fulfilling. I’ve also gotten back into drums in a big way to make sure I’m ready for what’s up next. I’m really trying to take things to that next level.”
