Can’t wait to hear this Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood collaboration.
In case you haven’t heard, This Is Spinal Tap is getting a sequel. Fans of the original comedy/musical/mockumentary (which premiered in 1984) will be happy to know that a sequel is on its way, and we’re closing in on its theatrical release.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is set to hit theaters on September 12.
For those unfamiliar with the cult classic movie, it basically set out to make fun of rock and roll music and everything surrounding it. That was in the 1980’s, so it should be interesting to see how they tackle the same (or similar) premise in the 2020’s.
Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, and Michael McKean – who were the original stars and writers of the movie – are all returning to reprise their roles and bring their made-up metal band Spinal Tap back to the big screen. And they’ll be joined along the way by some impressive cameos, including Paul McCartney, Elton John and Garth Brooks.
The country music star was asked by a fan about his cameo in the upcoming film during a livestream with Billboard last year, and though the country star didn’t want to say much, he shared what he could:
“Oh, with McCartney, and who is it, Elton maybe? No. Can’t say anything about it. Cause it’s not my deal. If it’s my deal, I’d spill my guts, but it’s not, so they swear you to secrecy and to silence.
I will tell you this though. If you think you have laughed before, Jiminy Christmas… first of all, I was in love with Spinal Tap, in love with the original movie. The fact that it’s coming back, it’s gonna be neat to be a part of this. Because this is history, man.”
Garth Brooks’ cheesy answer aside… the movie really is historical.
This might be the longest a movie, returning the original cast, has waited in between the first and the second films. And if the sequel is anything like the original, fans of comedy (and I suppose rock and roll) should be in for a treat. It certainly seems like the Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is pulling out all of the stops, especially when it comes to the features on the soundtrack.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues Soundtrack:
1. “Nigel’s Poem”
2. “Let’s Just Rock Again”
3. “Flower People” with Elton John
4. “Brighton Rock”
5. “The Devil’s Just Not Getting Old”
6. “Cups and Cakes” with Paul McCartney
7. “I Kissed a Girl”
8. “Angels”
9. “Big Bottom” with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood
10. “Judge and Jury”
11. “Rockin’ in the Urn”
12. “Blood to Let”
13. “Stonehenge” with Elton John
I don’t know about you… but I’ve got my eye on track number nine.
Country music super couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are teaming up with the legendary Spinal Tap to bring a song titled “Big Bottom” to life? I never know what to expect from Garth Brooks, but to quote one of his most famous (some might say infamous) lines…. I like that.
As of right now, we don’t have any teasers or excerpts from that track. Rest assured that I will be scanning the internet every day until the movie comes out hoping to catch even a few seconds of the Spinal Tap/Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood song. And “Big Bottom” certainly seems like a provocative idea… it’ll be interesting to see where they go – or rather how far they go – with that one.
