It’s safe to say that fans of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are taking this divorce…. quite poorly.
This week, news broke that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman had separated, and as TMZ reported, the two have been living apart since the beginning of summer when Keith moved out. Sources tell the news outlet that Nicole has been taking care of their two children and is “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.” The source added that Kidman was trying her hardest to save the marriage, making Urban’s decision to move out one-sided.
Of course, you never know what’s really going on behind closed doors, but the two of them always appeared very much in love, and they often spoke publicly about their seemingly strong marriage and life together. They share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, so this sitaution is heartbreaking all around, especially for their children.
While many fans hoped they would find their way back to each other, they were heartbroken when news broke that Kidman had officially filed for divorce from the country star, which was first reported by TMZ and later confirmed by People.
They were married for 19 years and first met in 2005 at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles. Urban talked about his wife’s “otherworldly era,” saying he was incredibly nervous to speak to her and felt like he was meeting a “real-life princess.” He eventually worked up the nerve to ask for her number, though it still took him a while to actually call her. Once he did, their connection was instant, and the rest is history. They were married the following year in 2006.
At the time of writing, neither Kidman nor Urban has made a statement about what led to their marriage ending. However, there is speculation that Urban may have another woman in his life. Of course, if the two have been living separate lives for quite some time, this does open the door for him to move on; however, given the suddenness of it all, fans are shocked to think about him being with another woman.
And now, fans are speculating that Urban might have the hots for his utility guitar player and fellow musician, Maggie Baugh. During a recent show, Urban shocked fans when he changed the lyrics to his song “The Fighter,” which comes from his 2016 record Ripcord, heavily influenced by his and Kidman’s early days together. The song holds a deep personal significance for their love story, as Urban shared with Billboard during a 2017 interview.
“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her. The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”
Given this information, the fact that Urban changed the lyrics days before the announcement of their separation, fans are now speculating that Baugh could be the other woman. Maggie Baugh posted the video three days ago, captioning the post:
“Did he just say that?”
And added a collection of emojis to the video, noting that she was shocked and mind-blown that he changed the lyrics to highlight her guitar playing instead of his bride.
During the performance, Urban changed the line of “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”
I mean… seems pretty harmless, right? But don’t try and tell fans that… they went OFF.
“Nicole deserves better.”
“Wow, that song was made for Nicole. For him to do that that tells us what he’s really all about. That’s just disgusting. Nicole deserves much better.”
“I stand with Nicole.”
“It is so trashy to do this to a song inspired by his wife. It’s the ultimate ick.”
“Gonna get my comment in before they turn it off: Keith, I saw you about 2 yrs ago. If you left Nicole for this, you’re crazy and will regret it for the rest of your life. Not seeing you again.”
“OK, dumping Nicole is looking more suspect.”
“Nicole is better off without this person. She is the fighter, he is a player.”
“Show some class, Keith, for goodness sake!”
“I am no longer a Keith Urban fan. Everything and what he stood for is a lie. He should be ashamed of himself. Poor daughters.”
“Wow! This is gross. Nicole is the mother of your children. If not respect for their mother at least show respect to the girls! Way to show your girls how not to be treated dad! Break ups happen but do it with grace, dignity, and respect my goodness.”
“Not cool. Not cool at all.”
While fans are quick to speculate in the comments that this is the woman Urban might be seeing, none of this is confirmed. Aside from fans pondering who this alleged “other woman” could be, they are more upset that he’s already changing the lyrics to his songs. Does this happen all the time in music? Could it mean absolutely nothing? Sure. But it could also be his way of moving on from his relationship, which seemed so strong from the public’s perception.
