Not holding back.
Over the weekend, Lasso music festival took place up north in Montreal, Quebec, at Parc Jean-Drapeau. The two-day festival featured the likes of Bailey Zimmerman and Jelly Roll as headliners, along with some stellar names such as Charles Wesley Godwin, Wyatt Flores, Willow Avalon, Kashus Culpepper, Noeline Hofmann, The Jack Wharff Band and more as support throughout.
In addition to the aforementioned names, Riley Green appeared late on Saturday night before Jelly Roll closed out the weekend. Throughout the 11-song set, Green delivered hits such as “Different ‘Round Here,” “Worst Way,” “There Was This Girl” and a cover of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” which has become a setlist staple for the Alabama native.
Most notably, however, Green performed both of his hits featuring Ella Langley, “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do,” with Dasha during the set, and fans were not happy.
Dasha, who rose to fame last year with the incredibly viral hit, “Austin (Boots Stop Workin’),” has quickly become a top target for country music fans who can’t stand pop country. From her performance at the CMT Awards last April to her makeup malfunction during Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, for the most part, the internet has not been too kind to the 25-year-old singer/songwriter.
Dasha’s streak of internet hate did not end this weekend either. Despite her performance with Green not being bad by any stretch of the imagination (she’s no Ella Langley, obviously, but she sounded fine), fans did NOT hold back online.
From accusing her of “trying too hard” to get the “Jesus Saves” singer’s attention to calling her trashy, the comments were pretty brutal:
“She looks like some random fan from the crowd they put on stage to come sing with him”
“She’s trying to get his attention too hard”
“She might be the most annoying female artist right now.”
“Oh hell nah. Only Ella”
“Absolutely not”
“She just seems like she’s trying entirely too hard.”
“Dasha needs to dash right back where she came from. Only one classy women can sing this song. She’s out sick at the moment.”
“What an insult to Ella.”
“I hate the way she excessively tries so hard”
“Ew not the Temu version….”
“That was brutal lmao”
“This was awful. Did she even know the song?”
Though many in the comments were seemingly trying to paint her appearance as an insult to Langley, it should be noted that not only is she currently taking the rest of the month off due to prolonged sickness, but she wasn’t even scheduled to perform at Lasso in the first place. Like I said, Dasha is an easy target right now, a Ella Langley fans are certainly protective of her hit single, especially given some of the Megan Moroney drama (which they also seem to constantly manufacture themselves), but it would be hard to argue that this performance from Dasha was bad.
Some comments pointed out how annoyed Green looked throughout the performance as well, and honestly, he did look a bit unhappy at points. But I’d find it hard to believe that any of that had to do with Dasha. She’s helping him out. Hell, it could just be the fact that he’s performed the track nearly every show for over a year straight at this point. Either way, it’s definitely not the most memorable performance of the ACM-winning track we’ve seen so far.
