The fight is on.
This past July 4th, America celebrated its 249th birthday, which is obviously a big deal in its own right. But any celebration that took place this past year will pale in comparison to what’s to come next 4th of July… when the United States of America officially turns 250.
President Donald Trump has taken it upon himself to make sure that America’s birthday is properly celebrated. That’s why America250 is currently taking place, and will run all the way to July 4th of 2026 when our country finally reaches the 250-year mark.
The year-long celebration will culminate with a massive fair on the ground of the National Mall in Washington D.C., which is set to feature exhibits from all 50 states. Oh, and the iconic White House will partner with the UFC to host a fight night on the lawn.
Nothing screams America more than having some people fight in the yard outside of a house.
President Trump is close friends with UFC CEO Dana White, and often attends UFC fights in person. So he’ll be happy that his commute to this specific fight won’t be long at all, and Trump was excited to announce the idea back in July, saying:
“Every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight… Think of this: On the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there.
We’re going to build – we’re not, Dana’s going to do it. Dana’s great, one of a kind. We’re going to have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20, 25,000 people. And we’re going to do that as part of 250 also. We’re going to have some incredible events. Some professional events, some amateur events, but the UFC fight’s going to be a big deal too.”
The only problem is that President Trump apparently forgot to run that announcement by Dana White.
So the UFC President & CEO got caught a bit off guard when the POTUS put the idea out in the open. But the good news is that he was well aware of the plan… it just had much to still be hashed out. And today, a little over a month since we last heard about the event, Dana White confirmed that the UFC fight on the White House lawn was a go.
During an interview with CBS Mornings, White was asked about the special July 4th, 2026 fight, and he stated that it’s on, and that the details are being worked out sooner rather than later:
“It is definitely going to happen. I talked to him last night… him being the president. I’m flying out there at the end of this month and I’m gonna sit down and walk him through all the plans and renderings. We’re gonna start deciding what he wants and doesn’t want. It’s definitely going to happen.”
Needless to say, Dana White – who just recently signed a deal to move the UFC from ESPN to CBS and Paramount – is very excited to have his Ultimate Fighting Championship showcased as a part of America250:
“July 4th. 250th birthday of the United States of America. Live on CBS from the White House. Yeah, I’m pretty excited.”
