Could a Post Malone Super Bowl Halftime Show be in our future?

Every year around this time (when football season kicks back off), the conservation of “Who will play the Super Bowl Halftime Show?” ramps up. And that decision is usually confirmed by the NFL by the early fall, which builds up anticipation for the big game and the artist that’ll be showcased as a part of it.

The only problem? Country music hasn’t take center stage at the Super Bowl since (*checks notes*) 2003, when Shania Twain was the halftime performer. Before that, it was the iconic 1994 show that featured the likes of Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and The Judds at the Georgia Dome. All that to say… it’s been a long, long time since country music has had the honor of acting as the Super Bowl halftime performer.

Now, country music is arguably as popular as ever, and the 2026 Super Bowl could be the year that the genre returns to the Big Game. As to which country artist should be chosen… that’s a tough call. At this point though, if anyone within the country sphere was tapped to play the Super Bowl, it’d be a big win for the genre.

Could the perfect choice be Post Malone?

During a segment with the NFL on FOX, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert suggested that he could see Posty being the one to play at halftime of the Super Bowl. He was first presented with the top three predictions for Super Bowl performer on the platform “Kalshi,” which went as follows:

-Taylor Swift

-Ariana Grande

-Post Malone

Obviously, Taylor Swift seems like the popular pick (she’s the odds favorite right now) since she’s been intertwined with the sport of football ever since she started dating – and then got engaged to – Travis Kelce. But Herbert, who may or may not have more information than the rest of us since he’s an NFL quarterback (let’s be honest, he doesn’t know), went with Post Malone:

“I think it’s gonna be Post Malone. That’s gonna be my pick.”

Wouldn’t that be something, eh?

Considering that country artists have only been asked to cover national anthem duties as of late (Eric Church, Reba McEntire, and who could forgot Chris Stapleton?), it’d be a breath of fresh air to see the NFL finally go back to the well of country music for their Super Bowl show. And Post Malone could be the perfect person for that.

Why? Well, since he dipped into the country music world with his popular F1 Trillion album in 2024, Posty has become very enmeshed with the genre. Not to mention that the album itself featured the likes of Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, Hardy, and Chris Stapleton, while also mixing in independent artists Sierra Ferrell and Billy Strings. Then on top of that, Post Malone got help from legends like Dolly Parton and Hank Williams Jr.

Hell, if you just put all of those artists together, it’d make for quite the entertaining halftime show. Can you imagine some combo of Post Malone, Morgan Wallen, Billy Strings, Luke Combs and Lainey Wilson taking the stage at halftime… would be ELECTRIC.

And Post Malone obviously wouldn’t be limited to just asking the artists that he featured on his F1 Trillion album to accompany him for the Super Bowl. The rolodex that the “I Had Some Help” singer could pull off is lengthy and star-studded… which makes me really hope that Justin Herbert is right in his prediction (sorry Swifties). Then again, Taylor and Post have worked together in the past… maybe it’ll be both.

Until that Post Malone country music Super Bowl Halftime Show actually happens, guess we’ll have to just cue up the legendary one from 1994:
