Burning Man has seen its fair share of surprises, but nothing quite like a three-pound miracle making her entrance in the middle of Black Rock City in 2025.
On August 27th, amid a backdrop of swirling playa dust and looming monsoon warnings, a Salt Lake City couple became parents to a baby girl, unexpectedly and unforgettably.
Kayla had no idea she was pregnant, according to the Los Angeles Times. Her baby, who has since been named Aurora, was born in an RV at the festival and weighed just over 3 a half pounds.
“Had I known, that’s the absolutely last place on this planet I would have been,” Kayla’s husband Kasey said. Aurora was reportedly transported by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center, where she remains in the NICU.
The baby’s aunt has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the family, writing, “Our family was blessed with the surprise arrival of a beautiful baby girl… Mom and baby are both doing okay, but she will need to stay in the hospital until she is ready to come home.”
At the time of writing, more than $6,100 has been raised to support Aurora and her new parents. The fundraiser aims to offset extensive costs, including Aurora’s NICU care, travel and lodging while out of state, and basic necessities for first-time parents.
