This moose needs a crash course on proper golf etiquette.

When it comes to the game of golf, there are a fair amount of both written and unwritten rules. There are a lot of tertiary things you have to remember while hitting your little white ball around, like making sure to never walk in someone’s line, and to always repair divots and pitch marks (the indention your ball leaves when it hits the green) when you can.

Obviously, the moose in this video below isn’t familiar with any of that.

All it was worried about was picking a fight with a big, menacing… stationary flagstick. There was clearly some beef between the big animal and the pin. How did that come to be? Nobody knows. All we do know is that the young moose set its sights on the yellow and white material perched atop the stick and decided to wage war with it.

In case you didn’t know, moose are the largest of all deer that are in the deer family, and their height and weight might surprise you. Males are typically bigger than females, though both genders are generally ginormous (that’s the scientific term for describing moose size). On average, a bull moose usually stands at 6 feet tall at their shoulders, and can even weigh up to 1,400 pounds.

The moose in this clip appears to be a little on the younger side, though it packed a punch that would rival even the largest of the moose species. In reality, the wild animal was likely just being curious and having some fun with the flagstick. I’d doubt the pin did anything to deserve being sniffed/slapped/punched and/or tussled.

And it looks like the flag and the flagstick make it through the violent moose attack with maybe just a couple of scratches. The green itself, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. You can tell that the moose jumping up and down on the surface of the “dance floor” definitely tore it up a bit, and undoubtedly made the next golfer’s putt through that area a nightmare.

That is where the golf etiquette comes in. All golfers know that you should try and leave every part of the golf course better than how you found it. If you take a divot, or leave a mark or indention on the green, repairing those things to the best of your ability is part of the game.

This moose missed the memo on that:

All joking aside, a greenskeeper in an area that’s considered “moose country” must have one of the more frustrating jobs out there. Even a moose just walking across the golf course could call for some serious repair.

And though I feel for the guy or gal who had to clean this green up after the moose was done fighting with the flag, it was pretty entertaining to watch the big ol’ beast square off with the flagstick. Those on social media filled the comment section with similar appreciation… and a couple of golf-related jokes:

“In its defense, the flag started it.”

“Beautiful moose. Feeling its oats this morning.”

“Gonna be some major divots in that green.”

“Is it playing through or what?”

“The only interesting thing I have ever seen on a golf course.”

Hey now… as a golfer myself, that last comment hit a little too close to home. The post Young Moose Goes Toe To Toe With… A Flagstick On A Golf Course first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
