You Won’t Believe How Much Beef Americans Eat Over Memorial Day Weekend…

Happy Memorial Day, everyone.

Today, we take a break from work and the normal stresses of life to honor the members of our Military who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation safe. If you know a veteran, be sure to check in on them as today can be extremely hard as they remember lost friends from tours overseas.

In true American fashion, today will be marked mainly by drinking beer and throwing some meat on the grill, which is quite honestly the best way to spend any day but especially one where you want to have some time to reflect. I can’t even begin to come up with a system to calculate the number of beers that will be drank today, but the National Beef Cattlemen’s Association did some research to determine just how much beef is going to be consumed nationwide today and it’s just truly astounding…

According to the NBCA, 55.8 million pounds of beef will be eaten over Memorial Day weekend alone… Did you get that? Almost 56,000,000 POUNDS of beef will find their way into an American belly…

That is just… so much beef… Assuming the average burger is 6 ounces, that gives us approximately 148,800,000 burger patties eaten over the weekend. I love this country SO much.

Oh, and if burgers aren’t your style today, don’t worry, they calculated hot dogs as well.

On Memorial Day, Americans eat 818 hot dogs PER SECOND. That’s 70,675,200 wieners for those counting at home…

Obviously, today isn’t about the food and fun. It’s about honoring those who gave up their opportunity to enjoy this great country and the holidays that come with it so we can fully enjoy those holidays in their memory. It took a lot of lives to build this nation into what it is today, and while we can squabble over the details and find small things to nitpick at, it’s undeniably self-evident that we live in an unbelievably good time that we should be consistently grateful for.
