How’s that for a shocking twist?
Though the flagship Yellowstone series wrapped up at the end of 2024, the excitement stemming from the hit Taylor Sheridan show lives on. That’s mainly thanks to the news of various spinoffs in the works, like Dutton Ranch (or whatever it will be named), The Madison, The Marshals, and 1944.
That singular idea for Yellowstone continues to produce fruitful branches, eh?
And if it were up to Neal McDonough, who Yellowstone fans probably know better as the character Malcom Beck, there’d be another spinoff in some form or fashion. Or in the very least, McDonough would show up in one of the spinoffs that’s already in the works.
If you call yourself a fan of the show, you’ll remember that Malcom Beck was an antagonist in the second season of Yellowstone. Beck’s storyline presumably ended when he and John Dutton squared off (Costner’s character ended more than a few character’s storylines), and if you’d like to take a walk down memory lane, you can do so by pressing play on the video below:
Now Neal McDonough’s character certainly seems to be dead – or at least dying – in that tense scene. But you know what one of the golden rules of TV and movies is? If you didn’t actually see the character die, there’s always a chance that they could come back.
That’s actually what McDonough is banking on. And in a recent interview with Collider, he insisted that his villainous Yellowstone character is still very much alive… and that Malcolm Beck would be the perfect bad guy to pair opposite of Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler in his new spinoff:
“Yes, Malcolm Beck is not dead. No one saw him actually die in the field. I would love to see him come back and cause havoc with Rip because Cole Hauser was one of my dearest pals, and there’s nothing I would love more than to go toe to toe with Cole on the show. So, I’m open for that one. Everyone’s got to write in to Taylor saying, ‘Bring Malcolm Beck back!’”
Not a bad idea, right?
You might have read that and asked, “Write in to Taylor Sheridan? Why don’t you just ask about that yourself Mr. McDonough?” Fair question to have, but as the actor explained, buying a couple of minutes with Taylor Sheridan is more challenging than it may seem.
McDonough shared later in the interview that though he’s starred in a number of projects underneath the Taylor Sheridan umbrella, he’s actually only spoken to the Yellowstone creator… once:
“It’s funny, I’ve spoken with Taylor once. I had a five-minute conversation with him on set once. That was it. But somehow he keeps on hiring me.”
So makes sense that he’s imploring for others to write into the writer and director. That honestly might be the best way to get his attention.
With as many plates as Taylor Sheridan has spinning, it’s not exactly surprising that an actor that’s worked for him previously can’t get a hold of him. But I’m holding out hope that the man behind Malcom Beck gets lucky and convinces Sheridan to continue his story… because it’s definitely not the worst idea in the world. The post ‘Yellowstone’ Villain Claims His Character Isn’t Dead… & That He Could Come Back In A Spinoff first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
