The scene is set.

One of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone spinoffs has a location locked in for filming, and it sounds like it will be the perfect setting to continue Kayce Dutton’s story. In May, it was confirmed that Kayce Dutton would be followed for his spinoff show after rumors began swirling, concluding the Yellowstone series.

Rumors were also circulating that Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler would have a show of their own, which has since been confirmed and will premiere this Fall (the name has not yet been revealed, although it has been confirmed that ‘Dutton Ranch’ is NOT the name of the series).

While fans are getting amped up for that premiere, we are here to talk about Kayce Dutton’s storyline, so let’s get back to the topic at hand.

Variety reports that CBS has given a 13-episode order for a program called Y: Marshals, and Luke Grimes – A.K.A. Kayce Dutton – has been attached to the project. Yellowstone fans know that one of the main character qualities of Kayce was his prior military experience, specifically as a Navy SEAL. Based on the show’s proposed log line, it appears the series will explore his trained skillset a bit more:

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

However, after the show was announced, some fans were left perplexed about how this show would fit into how Kayce was portrayed during Yellowstone. We saw a man who gave up the violence, fell in love, had dreams of homesteading, and in the end, when his family brought him back into their drama, he gave up his badge as Livestock Commissioner and sold the Dutton Ranch. Kayce also ended the series by speaking about how grateful he was to be freed from all of the violence keeping up with the ranch brought and that he could go back to his peaceful, mundane life with his wife and kid.

However, even if the plot includes Dutton getting over wanting to leave his violent past behind, which might not fully make sense given how Yellowstone ended, folks are bound to tune in, given that Taylor Sheridan’s name is attached to it.

And based on recent reports, filming for the series is about to get underway after securing a location in Utah.

“Utah is such a draw for film and television because of its diverse landscapes, fantastic crews, and amazing, knowledgeable film office.”

Said Paramount’s Adam Morra, reported by Cowgirl Magazine.

Y: Marshals received funding by the Rural Utah Film Incentive program, bringing the production back to Summit County, where Yellowstone filmed its first three seasons before relocating filming to Montana.

Y: Marshals isn’t the only show film project set to film in Utah. KSL.com reports three other projects: Keep Coming Back, an independent film from director and producer Mark Rosman; The History Channel’s The Secrets of Skinwalker Ranch; and a new Netflix show, Freshman Inventors, will also film in various locations in Utah. According to the Utah Film Commission, four productions are projected to generate an economic impact of $57.4 million and support more than 380 new jobs.

Filming for Y: Marshals is projected to start this Fall, with an confirmed release date of Q1 2026.The post Yellowstone Spinoff ‘Y: Marshals,’ Starring Luke Grimes, Set To Film In Utah first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
