Will Arsenal Win the Premier League Next Season?

The 2024/25 Premier League season will officially kick off August 15.

With the action just a few weeks away, one of the main talking points heading into the new season is, of course, Arsenal. The Gunners have finished runners up for three seasons on the bounce now, pushing City in back-to-back title races before losing the title by 10 points to Arne Slot’s Liverpool side last season. This time around, the expectation is that Arteta has to win the league, or at the very least win a domestic trophy. Arteta himself believes the club has all the right “ingredients” to do it, so will this finally be Arsenal’s season?

Premier League Title Odds: Arsenal Remain 2nd Favourites

The bookies think that Arsenal will once again enter another title race in the upcoming 25/26 season. Top rated football betting app 10Bet have Arsenal down as second favourites with odds of 5/2, listing Liverpool (2/1) as the outright title favourites instead. Interestingly, Man City are close outsiders at 11/4 following their disastrous run of form last season, which saw Pep Guardiola’s side completely implode. This is why, before a ball has even been kicked, they’re predicting a Liverpool and Arsenal showdown.

Arteta Believes As Many As 8 Teams Could Win the League

Arteta himself was recently asked at a press conference to share his thoughts on the upcoming season and whether he believes Arsenal can win their first league title since 2004. In response, here’s what the Gunners boss had to say:

“Yes I do. It is getting more and more competitive each year. The level is increasing. We know that, so our demands have to increase as well.

“The thing is there are another six, seven, eight clubs in the league that have the right ingredients to win and there is only going to be one winner. So we have to focus a lot on the things that we can control, that we can do, to achieve what we want at the end of the season.”

“But we have also been very active in the market. We have to improve the players we already have, which is a massive objective after that. And then, set the right fundamentals and the right principles in pre-season to get the team ready with the best possible shape and availability to start the season.

The Gunners boss didn’t go into specific details on who he thinks those eight challenging teams are, but we know for sure that Liverpool, Arsenal, and City are in that mix. Arteta is certainly right in that the teams around them are strengthening. Even the likes of Villa and Newcastle, who’ve been in and around the top four for the past couple of seasons, could be up there come May next year, so there’s no telling how competitive next season might get.

Arsenal Make Summer Signing Number 6 In Bid to Push for Title

The one certainty after last season wrapped up was that Arsenal were going to be active in the summer transfer window.

This has certainly been the case so far, with Arteta quickly having snapped up Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Christian Norgaard from Brentford.

Just this past week, Arsenal have also just put pen-to-paper with centre-back Cristhian Mosquera and exciting forward Viktor Gyokeres, a more than capable alternative to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who the Gunners have seemingly missed out on signing again.

Let’s not forget that Arsenal have also brought in former Chelsea players Noni Madueke and Kepa, taking their summer signings count to six. And if Arteta manages to convince Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze to jump ship, it would wrap up what’s already been an excellent summer window.

All of this comes following Arteta’s comments to the media during the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong that the Gunners were “short” on numbers. One thing for sure is that Arsenal’s squad is now looking bigger and better than ever, with the club sporting some serious depth heading into next season.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool Will Pose a Serious Threat

If Arsenal are to win their first league title since the Invincible days of 2004, they’ll have to mount a serious title challenge against Liverpool. Arne Slot’s side are fresh off winning the league last season and the “Slot Machine” has wasted no time in strengthening the Reds over the summer. Liverpool have brought in the likes of record £116m signing Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, taking the club’s summer spending to around the £300 million mark. And with the momentum of last season’s trophy win under their wings, Arteta has a job on his hands to knock Liverpool off their perch, especially considering how active they’ve been this summer.

Pep Guardiola Wants City Back on Top

Arteta will also have to deal with the potential resurgence of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, who many have been quick to write off. Despite Pep winning 6 Premier League titles during his stay in England, it all seems to have been forgotten following City’s incredible fall off last season, which saw them drop out of any sort of title race and finish 3rd place on 71 points. In fairness to Pep, though, City did recover in the latter half of the season and have since been extremely busy in the transfer market, so you wouldn’t rule out City once again returning to the top of the table if they hit the ground running.

Can Arsenal Really Win the League?

With all that said, the case of whether Arsenal can win the league or not next season remains an open one. However, Arsenal have undoubtedly strengthened this summer and look like they will at least be in the title race next season, even if Liverpool or City eventually go on to win it again. And if Arteta can’t get his hands on the Premier League trophy, all signs point to the Gunners finding a way to grab a domestic trophy, be it the FA Cup or League Cup. Arsenal also looked great in last season’s Champions League, which famously saw them dump Real Madrid out 5-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, so don’t be shocked to see Arsenal go deep in Europe again while also pushing for the Premier League.

Arteta’s Future Is On the Line

The last thing that Gunners supporters want to see is a repeat of Arsène Wenger’s final days at Arsenal back in 2018. That level of toxicity has hopefully been left far behind, but you wouldn’t rule out seeing it again if Arteta fails to enter a serious title race next season. Going trophyless would make that six years on the bounce without any silverware, so a growing section of supporters would likely turn on the 43-year-old Spaniard, who still remains one Europe’s most talented young managers. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see what happens, but based on Arsenal’s summer window activity and the buzz surrounding the club again, Arsenal might just be standing on that Premier League podium when May arrives.
