Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia’s Brother Arrested During A Game For The Second Time This Season

Having himself quite the season.

Vanderbilt put an exclamation point on the best season in school history today when quarterback Diego Pavia led the Commodores to a massive win against in-state rival Tennessee in Knoxville.

The Commodores came into the game at 9-2 and with an outside shot at making the College Football Playoff. And they were tied with the Vols at halftime, before Pavia took control and rallied his team to a 45-24 victory while racking up 165 rushing yards and 268 passing yards in the process.

Pavia hit the Heisman pose in celebration after rushing for a 23-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to all but seal the game. And after the game, he made it clear that he believes he should be in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony:

But Diego wasn’t the only Pavia who padded his stats during the game.

Javier Pavia, the 25-year old brother of Vandy’s QB, was arrested during the game, marking the second time this year he’s been taken into custody at one of his brother’s games.

Early in the game, it appeared the Pavia family had words with security at Neyland Stadium about sitting on the wall:

And later on, photos began circulating showing Javier being escorted out of the stadium and detained by officers outside of a Knox County Sheriff van.

According to Tyler Whetstone, a reporter for Knox News, Pavia was arrested and charged with public intoxication after reportedly refusing to put down a flag that was blocking the view of those behind him, and then exchanging words with officers.

If you remember back to earlier in the season, both Javier and his brother Roel Pavia were arrested and charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication during Vandy’s season opener.

Javier’s charges are still pending in Davidson County from his previous arrest, and he’s due back in court on January 12, 2026.

Just a monster run for the Pavia family this season. Heisman-level stats all around.

Of course the most fun story to come out of the Vanderbilt football season involves another member of the Pavia family: The potential relationship between Diego Pavia’s mother and comedian Theo Von.

A few weeks ago, Theo was on the sideline as Vandy beat the South Carolina Gamecocks when he revealed that his friend Pavia had promised to set him up on a date with his mom, Antoinette Padilla, if the Commodores won the game:

“She’s a nurse, and my goal is I would like to marry a nurse one day, so that’s why. He was thinking about that.”

But it sounded like Theo was already getting cold feet before the game was even over:

“I don’t know, I like being his friend, I don’t want to end up being like his stepdad or something, you know? … We’ll see what happens.”

Oh, and for anyone wondering, this is Pavia’s mom:

Now, Theo is 45 years old so he’s probably close in age to Mama Pavia. But Diego previously revealed that there were some conditions Theo had to meet before he could date his mom:

Well Pavia never got his date with Tate McRae. But a couple weeks ago, the internet erupted when it appeared that Theo may have gotten his date with Pavia’s mom anyway.

After Vandy’s big win over Missouri, Diego Pavia joined Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on their show Nightcap – and Theo was there to crash the interview.

As Pavia turned the camera around to show none other than Theo Von standing behind him…along with Pavia’s mom.

Theo was hilarious during the interview, but it was Theo and Mama Pavia that really got people talking, and wondering whether there was actually a blossoming relationship between the two.

The comedian didn’t give us any details at the time, but during a recent episode of his podcast This Past Weekend he finally provided us with an update on whether the date ever happened.

“It just never got set up really. I feel like I’ve tried to make myself available. I just don’t know – just can’t get a clear answer from her. And also he and I are friends. I don’t want to upset the friendship. I don’t want to like sit him down and have a talk with him, you know, like, ‘Clean your room.’

So it’s like, I don’t want to press the issue. She’s great. I feel like we might just be best as friends.”

And today he joined The Pat McAfee Show, where he went into further detail about why it never worked out – though it sounds like he was already preparing himself to take her out:

“I was kinda getting fired up or whatever, or at least I was taking care of myself better a little bit…

The date never really panned out. The date never made it. I couldn’t get him a date with Tate McRae, she wouldn’t answer my DMs. But I don’t blame her.”

While he’s not going to be a stepdad to Pavia any time soon, the quarterback did ask Theo to walk out with him on Senior Day this past week, and the This Past Weekend host says he values his friendship with the whole family:

“I just love being over there, it adds so much joy to my life.”

Honestly, it’s probably for the best. You don’t want to ruin a friendship by dating his mom, and who knows where Pavia will be playing next year.
