To celebrate the release of his new record Snipe Hunter, Tyler Childers put on a free concert in Nashville, highlighting some of the latest tunes. This morning, July 28th, Tyler Childers’ fan account, the Hickman Holler Hunting Club, shared a post stating that he was planning a surprise pop-up show at Nashville’s Turkey & the Wolf Ice House.
Shortly after the post went up, fans flocked to the restaurant and bar to secure their place in the crowd and to enjoy a Snipe Sandwich while they waited for the “Nose On the Grindstone” singer to hit the makeshift stage.
Childers played quite a few songs off his new record, including one of my personal favorites, “Bitin’ List.” The cheeky “I don’t like you” tune is catchy and the perfect song to fire up when you’re angry at someone.
But he did not neglect the other fan favorites from his catalog that came before Snipe Hunter, playing other hits like “Lady May” and “Old Country Church.”

However, one of the best parts of the pop-up occurred after the show when Evan Honer got to meet the Kentucky native.
Honer blew up at the start of his career with his cover of “Jersey Giant.” In 2022, Honer and his fiddle player, Julia DiGrazia, who plays the mandolin on this track, went viral for their take on the song from Childers’ vault. The song follows the composition of the tune online when Childers sings it, and it’s one of the country music community’s favorite renditions of the tune. If Timmy Ty is going to keep “Jersey Giant” in the vault, Evan Honer’s version is the next best thing.
After today’s show in Nashville, Honer approached Childers to introduce himself and was met with quite the compliment from the “Jersey Giant” songwriter.
“Dude, I cover your song all the time.”
Childers jokes with Evan Honer.
“I love ‘Jersey Giant.'”
Honer laughs at his joke that “Jersey Giant” is his song, before responding that he was not planning on bringing up his cover of the song at all. Childers then tells Honer that he recognized him from the crowd, and it appears that he was very pleased Honer made the effort to introduce himself after the show.
It’s great to see that Childers respects Honer and praises him for covering his famous tune. This clip will live rent-free in my head for the foreseeable future.
Before you go, fire up Honer’s rendition of “Jersey Giant”
