Chris Pratt didn’t hold back his political views in a recent interview with Bill Maher.
For my money, Chris Pratt is one of the most warmhearted people in all of Hollywood. He’s often outspoken about his faith, and he has a real soft spot for people who have served to protect the United States of America. Pratt also happens to be a very talented action and comedic actor, and has starred in some of the biggest movies franchises ever (Guardian of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) and most memorable TV shows (The Terminal List, Parks and Recreation).
But he changed things up a bit this week by going on the Club Random podcast, which is hosted by Bill Maher. Pratt typically avoids the political conversations, so it was interesting to see him sit down with the political commentator for a long form interview.
To be clear, Pratt didn’t say anything outlandish. However, he did stand strong with a couple of his beliefs. He first suggested that politics naturally forms enemies, and because that’s especially been true as of late, the 46-year-old actor has had trouble discerning what’s true and what’s not politically:
“In politics, you inherent enemies. When you jump on the bandwagon with who is the most divisive president ever, it makes sense that you are going to be made to look terrible. I don’t know what to believe.”
Things got a little personal when Pratt revealed that he happens to be somewhat close with someone working in the Trump administration.
You see, Pratt is friendly with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who the movie star refers to as “Bobby” in the interview. Pratt’s wife is Katherine Schwarzenegger, which makes his mother-in-law Maria Shriver. She is the daughter of Eunice Kennedy, which in turn makes Chris Pratt a distant cousin of RFK Jr… by law.
Sorry if that was confusing… I know there are a lot of moving, family tree parts there.
Pratt brought up what it’s like hanging out with the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, and commended him for attempting to make America a healthier place:
“It’s not like I sit with Bobby and go, ‘Hey, let’s talk about this.’ We’re just playing cards or playing mafia or having dinner. I’m not gonna pick his brain to figure out which of those things are true. I just kind of assume that none of them are. And for the most part, I wish him well.
There are certain things that he oversees that seem to be supported in a bi-partisan way, like getting terrible toxic stuff out of our kids’ food. I think that’s a great thing. If you just do that, that’s amazing.”
That’s where Chris Pratt got as political as he’ll ever get.
Once he brought up RFK Jr. trying to take toxic chemicals out of food, the Hollywood star went after people who oppose that happening just because it’s taking place while Trump is in office:
“I’d hate to be so mired in hatred for the president that any success from his administration is something I’d have an allergic reaction to — to be like, ‘Oh, well, if they do it, I don’t want it to happen. I’ll put Clorox in my children’s cereal myself!’
You know, it’s like, come on, be reasonable here. There are certain things that would be a good thing to have. I want them all to be successful.”
