Owner, president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, finally speaks on his incredible Landman cameo.
Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s hit TV show were stunned to see Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, make a cameo appearance in season one’s penultimate (9th) episode. Titled “WolfCamp,” the episode mostly focused on Jon Hamm’s character, M-Tex CEO Monty, dealing with heart issues in the hospital. Monty ended up receiving a surprising visit (at least surprising for viewers) from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who played himself in the show.
And man, oh man did he lay down an impressive monologue:
“I made my mind up a long time ago that I was going to work with my kids. And they’re involved in everything. When I got the Cowboys, I got it so we could all work together. I thought I was doing it for them, but the one that got the most out of it was me.
You’re gonna be sitting here sometime in the future, laying here sometime in the future, and this room is gonna be full of your business associates, and the people you’ve worked with all your life. And more than likely, your children and family are gonna be there because they’re your children and your family.
But you could have them there because they’re the people you spent your life with… not just Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m pretty proud of them Cowboys, I’m pretty proud of the stuff we’ve done in oil and gas. It pales in comparison to how proud I am to have lived my life working with my kids.”
If only Jerry Jones could manage a football team as well as he could act.
The conversation around that scene basically asked the question, “Was Jerry Jones really acting there?” Obviously, those things that the Cowboys GM spoke about in his monologue are true in real life… so Jones basically played himself and shared an anecdote from his real life experience.
Regardless, it was moving.
And he finally talked about his cameo while he was a guest on Fox & Friends. The hosts of the show asked what lesson that he wanted viewers to take away from his cameo, and how Jones felt providing the monologue and his performance standing out in the series.
Jerry Jones responded with this:
“The lesson is called subject matter, really. One of them is your kids. If you have a conversation or you have any type of presentation in that case, that’s got your kids in mind, there’s a lesson for all of it. That strums a lot of strings in hearts. And it did at that time.
The facts are that’s a true story, and the real world is that (myself and my family) did get involved together, they were, of course, much younger. But a lot of these ideas were not mine. They were their’s as we moved along. Not only that, they’ve executed them. So they’ve been great partners.”
Classic Jerry Jones response… makes sense for the most part, with a healthy amount of aimless rambling mixed in. The main take away is that he confirmed that he was just talking about his real life experiences with the Dallas Cowboys and working with his kids.
Wonder how Cowboys fans feel hearing that some of his kids have been calling the shots though…The post “That’s A True Story” – Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones On His Scene-Stealing Cameo In ‘Landman’ first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
