Testament’s Alex Skolnick Says “It Would Be Great” to Go on Tour with Metallica
Sounds like a bold idea... The post Testament’s Alex Skolnick Says “It Would Be Great” to Go on Tour with Metallica appeared first on MetalSucks.

When it comes to the big names in touring metal acts, there is none more massive than Metallica. Dudes sell out everywhere they go, play massive football stadiums that measure on the Richter scale, and have been known to expose millions to supporting artists of varying degrees of popularity. And it’s that last bit that really makes Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick want to go on tour with them.
We know that little bit of info because of his most recent appearance on The Jasta Show (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). During his conversation with Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, Skolnick discussed the possibility of Testament ever touring with their Bay Area compatriots. Ever hte well-spoken gentleman, Skolnick explained his feelings on the matter.
“I think the fact that Pantera is out there with [Metallica now] and just killing it at the stadium level… Yeah, even though, [Pantera] did some real numbers as far as record sales in the ’90s, but still, it’s intense music and it’s much closer to the sort of — I wouldn’t say extreme these days, ’cause now music’s gotten so extreme, but it’s much closer to a lot of the more underground music and they’re doing it at that level and proving that it works at that level. So you never know. “
Pantera has indeed been on the road with Metallica for a while now. Other bands that have played with them on the M72 World Tour include Ice Nine Kills, Limp Bizkit, Five Finger Death Punch, Floor Jansen, and Epica, just to name a few. Hell, next year’s European leg of the tour will include Gojira, Knocked Loose, Pantera, and Avatar.
Even though he knows how much of a bump a Metallica tour would be for a band like Testament, whose new album Para Bellum is coming out on October 10, he said he’d rather keep things civil and not talk shop so much when chilling with the Metallica boys.
“But whenever I run into the Metallica guys, I’m not gonna ask them, ‘Hey, man, take me on tour.’ [That would be] ridiculous. I’d rather talk to Lars [Ulrich, Metallica drummer] about movies. I’d rather talk to Kirk [Hammett, Metallica guitarist] about vintage Gibson guitars. I’d rather talk to Robert [Trujillo, Metallica bassist] about Jaco Pastorius. James [Hetfield, Metallica guitarist/vocalist], whatever he wants to talk about.
“They’re great guys, and they’re so supportive. I mean, sure, it would be great. But also that’s an organization now. Even if they want to handpick some lineup, they have [their management company] Q Prime [which oversees all of that].”
Para Bellum will be released on October 10 via Nuclear Blast, but you can preorder or presave your copy today. If you’d like to catch ’em live, we’ve also got their touring schedule posted below.
