Sabrina just released a new album Man’s Best Friend, which features hits like “Manchild,” and more, so I’m sure you’ve heard of her at some point, even if you’re not overly familiar with her music. And while current pop music isn’t really my thing, I do like Sabrina and enjoy a lot of her stuff. I’ll be honest, I tend to really enjoy it when she does something country like this.
Sabrina has actually collaborated with Dolly Parton before, and just recently performed at the Grand Ole Opry, so she clearly has a love for country music. That being said, I’m not sure that anyone expected her to bring out The Chicks for a performance of “Wide Open Spaces.”
The song was written by Susan Gibson and recorded by The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, and released in 1998 as the third single and title track from their album Wide Open Spaces. The song hit #1 on the U.S. Country singles chart and spent four weeks there in November of 1998. In addition, it became a minor crossover hit when it peaked at #41 on the U.S. Pop singles chart.
Of course, it became one of their signature songs and is one of those nostalgic tunes I can always blast in my car and be transported to another place and time. Sabrina sounded amazing here, and I think she clearly has great taste when it comes to country music.
The Chicks still get a lot of hate from country fans, and maybe some of it is deserved, I don’t know, but I grew up on their music and I’m obsessed with this. I really need Sabrina to cover a few country songs because she has a knack for it and I love her song choices every single time she does a country cover:

Here’s a little bit of her performance with Shania Twain last weekend, where they teamed up for “That Don’t Impress Me Much”:
