Robert Patrick made his own crossover happen.
There’s a chance that you don’t recognize that name, and that’s okay. I’m almost 100% sure you’ll recognize the face behind iconic characters like T:1000 in Terminator 2: Judgement, or Sheriff William McDowell in the Yellowstone prequel 1923. Simply put, Robert Patrick doesn’t miss, and he gets cast in a ton of great shows and movies.
Though 1923 has wrapped, Patrick’s role in the show is still fresh on his mind. That was showcased in a recent video that the actor posted to his social media account, which featured him running through lines of Sheriff William McDowell’s while he was in costume for a completely different series.
Currently, Robert Patrick is starring in the DC Comics TV program Peacemaker airing on HBO Max. The TV series is a spinoff of John Cena’s Peacemaker character, which first appeared in James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad. Patrick plays Auggie Smith – the problematic father of Cena’s superhero character. The actor is also a superhero, and is named White Dragon in Season 1 and Blue Dragon in Season 2 of the series. As always, he puts forth some incredible performances.
I won’t throw out any spoilers, so all I’ll say is that Patrick’s acting ability in the show allows for viewers to both hate and sympathize with his character. And if you aren’t familiar with Peacemaker, it’s pretty hard to side with the type of person that Auggie Smith is… especially in the show’s first season.
Robert Patrick has had some scene-stealing moments in Season 2, and it looks like his secret to high-level acting might be running lines in between takes of Peacemaker. That’s normal for an actor or actress, right? Well… not if they are running lines from a completely different show that they starred on previously.
Patrick posted a video of himself in his Blue Dragon superhero costume reciting lines from his role as Sheriff McDowell in 1923. If you’ve watched both shows, it’s a little weird to see the 66-year-old actor dressed up as a superhero but delivering a monologue of a Yellowstone character.
That being said, it’s pretty cool that Robert Patrick still has his 1923 lines memorized:
“Identity crisis level: unlocked. Running lines for ‘1923’ in my ‘Peacemaker’ Blue Dragon suit. Only 2 episodes of ‘Peacemaker’ remain!”
I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must be to memorize lines like that. And here’s Robert Patrick in the middle of acting on a different series altogether and still being able to recall the words of Sheriff William McDowell. That’s pretty dang impressive if you ask me.
And in case you missed the great news, Patrick has signed on to be play a big part of another Taylor Sheridan show. He’s joined the cast for Season 3 of the hit show Tulsa King.
Here’s to hoping that Robert Patrick delivers some more memorable scenes in the third season of Tulsa King like he did in 1923 and Peacemaker. Considering he’s brought his all in everything he’s done throughout his entire career, I’d say his role in the newest season of the hit Taylor Sheridan show will continue his run of standout performances.
