Riley Green Strips Back Fan-Favorite Songs For Beautiful Acoustic ‘Midtown Sessions’ EP

Going fully acoustic.

Today, Riley Green released his Midtown Sessions acoustic EP, which is a collection fan-favorite songs in “Change My Mind,” “Worst Way,” “Jesus Saves,” “Cowboy In Me” as well as a brand new song called “Bartender In Destin” and was produced by his friend and frequent collaborator Erik Dylan.

Riley often plays acoustic versions of some of his songs, as well as country classics, on Instagram, and I’ve always said that he should put out a fully acoustic album because it just fits hist style so well.

There’s just something about the sound of a song that has been stripped back to the bare bones, so to speak, that allows the lyrics and message to really shine, but in order for that to really work, it has to be a fantastic song on its own that doesn’t need all of the bells and whistles to have integrity. If it’s authentic and true to the artist, then acoustic is usually my preferred way to hear it, and so of course “Jesus Saves” is even better in this style.

I think I said when he put the original studio cut out that I needed to an acoustic cut too, and it certainly didn’t disappoint… real fans know how incredible it is, but in general, that song is just so underrated and it was one of the best country music songs that was put out last year, in my humble opinion.

The new tune “Bartender In Destin” is also acoustic, and it’s a cute little song about Riley enjoying some time on the beach and falling for a pretty bartender, and it finds him reflecting on that night and how fun it was. It’s a fun summer beach song, and in terms of the content and messaging, fits right into Riley’s wheelhouse.

He most recently released his Don’t Mind If I Do album last year, which included his most recent hit song “Worst Way,” which I’m sure fans will enjoy equally as it is in this acoustic EP. There’s also a great cover of Tim McGraw’s “Cowboy In Me” and a stripped-back rendition of Riley’s original “Change My Mind.”
