Shining a light on some other stellar female artists.
Riley Green and Ella Langley are the most iconic duet partners of the last year, capturing the hearts of fans with their CMA Award-winning duet “You Look Like You Love Me.” after that song took off online having a mega-viral moment, the two ran it back with Langley appearing as the feature on Green’s hit “Don’t Mind If I Do.”
Since the two songs have gone viral, and with Riley Green and Ella Langley on tour together for his Damn Country Music tour, fans love seeing the two take the stage each night. Their stage chemistry is undeniable as they perform the two songs, really leaning into the love story of both “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do.” This stage chemistry led fans to believe they were truly in love, and relationship rumors began to swirl.
However, that’s a whole other rabbit hole to go down… if you want to delve into the weeds of that, start here.
Unfortunately, Langley recently announced that she needs to take a break from touring to focus on her mental and physical health after being worn down and exhausted on the road:
“I’m so sad to be posting this. The past several weeks have been tough. I’ve been fighting sickness and feeling more run down than ever. After a lot of thought, I’ve made the hard decision to take a couple of weeks to rest and focus on my health — mind, body, and heart.
I want to be fully present for all the moments ahead, and I know I can’t do that without first taking care of myself. Sometimes we have to listen when our bodies and hearts are telling us to slow down. I’m so grateful for your understanding and your love — it truly means the world to me. ‘Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Matthew 11:28.”
With Langley no longer being on the road with him, Green is left without a duet partner. But instead of nixing “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do” from his setlists, or singing them solo, he’s bringing other up-and-coming talent to the stage. This is not a new move on Green’s part, as he has brought up fans and other artists to sing with him when he and Langley had scheduling conflicts and were unable to perform together.
However, recently Green shared that he continues to bring rising talents to the stage to showcase them, just as he was once showcased by larger artists he toured with at the start of his career. Green shared the following in a recent interview with Pure Country Radio:
“I still look at all these decisions I make as a fan. Like ‘How cool would it be for me to get up with so and so and do a song?’ A lot of these guys that I’ve gone on tour with were nice enough to bring me on stage with them. I’ll never forget my first major tour was with Brad Paisley, and he got me on stage with him to sing “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” because he loved that song so much.
So obviously, it’s great when Ella’s on stage with me to do that song; she does such a great job. But it’s been really cool to get some of these other artists up there to do it, and give them a little moment of spotlight.”
That’s what it’s all about. It’s also cool to see Riley Green do this because we all know that the crowd can be a little sparse during opening acts, so having Green bring these artists back to the stage exposes their voice to a larger audience.
Recently, Riley Green brought up Madeline Merlo, a Canadian pop country singer, while performing at Canada’s Country Thunder series. Ella Langley is a hard voice to fill the shoes of, but Merlo did a great job on stage.
