That sounds… dangerous.

Riley Green is doing the press rounds following the release of the deluxe edition of his  2024 album Don’t Mind If I Do album this past Friday, and during an appearance on the Zach Sang Show this week, he talked about the music, his dating life, dating apps… and what he thinks might be an underground dating website.

They got on the topic of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, where people list and sell items to other Facebook users, or the general public on Craigslist, kind of like eBay. Well, apparently Riley has scrolled through the “mirror” section a few too many times and has a wild theory about why people really might be selling so many mirrors on there.

He explained that many of the photos of the mirrors show the sellers all dressed up to take the photo, because obviously you can see them in the reflection, and he thinks that they’re not only showing off their mirror, but themselves:

“If you’ve ever wondered, this may just be me, have you ever seen people selling mirrors on there? I always wonder about, sometimes what they do in the mirror when they’re taking the picture is a weird thing.

Like they’re doing a weird stance or something, and I just wondered if there was some underground dating world for people that are just doing that to show themself to get on Facebook marketplace. I think that’s a thing. Next time you’re on there, all you have to do is look at ‘mirror,’ type that in one time and then it’ll be all over the place.

And I want you to look, because there will be people who get dressed up  to take a picture of this mirror they’re selling for $50, but they really just want you to see them. I think so.”

I mean, I’ve probably heard too many horror stories about these online selling websites and sales that go… really wrong… but of course, out of curiosity, I had to search Facebook marketplace and Craigslist myself to see if his theory held up.

And aside from a few photos which definitely looked like the seller might looking for more than just $50, most of them didn’t show the person at all… so maybe it’s been a while since Riley was on either one of those sites. Or he was really searching a different section, in which case I need to know what it was because he has certainly sparked my curiosity.

Riley also clarified:

“I’ve never bought a mirror or dated a person that was selling a mirror, just so you know.”

That of course led to a question about whether or not Riley is on any dating apps, and he assured everyone he wasn’t, so if you see “him” anywhere online, don’t fall for it…

“No, no. I mean, there might be a picture of me on one but it’s not really me, for everybody out there.”

I know everyone loves to talk about his dating life, but this Facebook marketplace/Craigslist theory was way more entertaining to hear him talk about. We need to get to bottom of it:

There have been so many stories and theories about these kinds of sites, I’m sure many of you have heard them before, and one TikTok user commented on the video:

“My sister was a Craigslist prostitute…. it blew my mind.”

Maybe Riley’s theory does hold up, but I can’t even begin to go there… do with that information what you will.

The already fan-favorite “Make It Rain,” which Riley has teased for months now, is just beautiful:

“Bet They’re Biting” is a song about Riley’s grandpa getting older, and it will rip your heart out too:
