Report: Arsenal set to complete £24m deal, medical could happen today

Arsenal look set to sanction a significant departure before the transfer window closes.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Porto’s official bid, worth in excess of €25million, is close to seeing a deal sealed. The proposal is structured as a loan with an obligation to buy, ensuring Arsenal receive a guaranteed fee for the Poland international.

Portuguese outlet A Bola reporting that Jakub Kiwior could complete his medical with Porto as early as today.

Kiwior, who joined Arsenal from Spezia in January 2023 for around £20m, has agreed personal terms with Porto and is keen to make the switch. The 25-year-old impressed in spells last season but has slipped down the pecking order following the arrivals of Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera, and another new signing Piero Hincapie is set to crowd that area of the pitch.

Mikel Arteta has praised Kiwior’s professionalism, but with minutes set to be limited in North London, Arsenal’s hierarchy see this as the right moment to cash in. A sale for more than their original outlay represents good business and could help free up funds for any late activity in the market.

According to Abdellah Boulma, the deal will be structured as a loan with a €27m (£24m) mandatory buy option. It’s very possible that Arsenal could structure the deal to sign Piero Hincapie in a similar way.

Arsenal likely could have achieved a slightly larger fee if they sold to an English club, with several interested, but the players desire was to leave England.

If all goes to plan with the paperwork and medical, Kiwior could be unveiled as a Porto player before the weekend. For Arsenal, it would mark their first significant outgoing in a busy summer window. The club hope to make more sales this summer with the likes of Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko in the shop window.
