Arsenal have officially completed the signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in a high-profile move that bolsters Mikel Arteta’s attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 27-year-old Swedish international joins the Gunners after a prolific season in Portugal, where he netted 52 goals in all competitions and helped Sporting secure the Primeira Liga title. His dynamic performances, physicality, and goal-scoring prowess made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe this summer, with several top clubs expressing interest.
Sporting Director Andrea Berta said: “We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyökeres to the club. Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level centre-forward. His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision.
“We are confident Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and become an important figure in our dressing room. Welcome, Viktor!”
Ultimately, Arsenal moved decisively to secure Gyökeres’ signature. The deal represents a major backing of Arteta’s vision by sporting director Andrea Berta, who continues to reshape the squad with players ready to make an instant impact. Gyokeres will offer Arsenal a powerful focal point and an alternative to Kai Havertz.

The former Coventry City man is no stranger to English football, having previously played in the Championship, but this marks a significant step up as he enters his peak years in the Premier League.
At 6ft 2in, Gyökeres brings strength, mobility and a relentless work rate – qualities that should align well with Arsenal’s high-intensity style. His ability to drop deep and link play also offers tactical flexibility, allowing Arteta to rotate between a front three or a two-striker setup with Kai Havertz or Jesus.
