There’s a Yellowstone spinoff filming in Ferris, Texas…. but it doesn’t seem like it’s “Rio Palo,” as it has been previously reported.
We here at Whiskey Riff – among other news outlets – published a story that certainly made it seem as though there was another, additional Yellowstone spinoff on the way. It all started when the City of Ferris put out a statement on their official Facebook page.
Ferris, Texas – a town about 20 miles south of Dallas – was excited to be chosen as a future filming location for a Yellowstone spinoff, and the city put out a statement expressing their excitement to be involved:
“The city of Ferris is proud to announce that Paramount Pictures has selected Ferris as a primary filming location for its upcoming spinoff of the acclaimed television series ‘Yellowstone,’ titled ‘RIO PALO.’ The production will highlight the charm, versatility, and visual appeal of the community, positioning Ferris on a national stage and capturing its unique character for audiences around the world.”
The town itself was reported to be very important to the show’s story, and it was announced that a real home in Ferris was going to be featured as a lead character’s home in the spinoff that the City of Ferris claimed to be titled “Rio Palo.” City Manager Brooks Williams was thrilled about the opportunity:
“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris. Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted and grown.
Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.”
101 Studios, which helps produce Taylor Sheridan’s television shows, later told Country Living that there is a spinoff that is set to film in Ferris, Texas. However, they confirmed that it’s the already announced spinoff featuring Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler – The Dutton Ranch.
The studio also confirmed that the show is not going to be called “Rio Palo.” That’s a good clarification, but it does add to some of the confusion with why those behind the spinoff have hesitated to nail down a name for the show. Perhaps Rio Palo was a code name of sorts to keep it under wraps, one that the town blew up with their Facebook post?
Cole Hauser even previously said that it wasn’t going to be called The Dutton Ranch, only for Paramount to refer to it as such during their most recent earnings call. Of course, they’re pretty well-known for using working titles, which sometimes end up being the name, and sometimes don’t.
It’s also important to note that the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff filming in Texas could be a clue into the continuation of their story. Most of the flagship Yellowstone series was filmed in Montana, with some of the story, particularly surrounding the iconic 6666’s Ranch, being filmed in Texas. It could mean that Reilly and Hauser’s characters are also on the move, as well as Finn Little’s character, Carter, who will also be reprising his role in the new series.
The bad news is that we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out. All signs were pointing towards The Dutton Ranch premiering in late 2025 between September and December, as every piece of information that Paramount released about the upcoming spinoff put it as a “Q4 release” in 2025. However, in Paramount’s earnings call for Q2, they clarified that the spinoff focusing on Beth and Rip would actually find itself premiering in 2026.
So only then will we see Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler back in action…The post No, There Is Not A New ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Named ‘Rio Palo’ Being Filmed In Texas… It’s Actually The Highly-Anticipated Rip & Beth Series first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
