Man Carrying Arsenal of Drugs Arrested En Route to Burning Man

A man bound for the 2025 Burning Man event was arrested after police discovered a large cache of illegal drugs in his cargo van, police said Thursday.

David Haynes, 48, was pulled over around 11pm Wednesday by Yerington police during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop. After a police dog alerted to the presence of narcotics, officers searched the vehicle, which had obstructed plates, and uncovered what they described as a substantial quantity of drugs packaged for distribution.

The seized narcotics included 104 grams of crack cocaine, 6.1 grams of methamphetamine, 9.0 grams of MDMA, 9.9 grams of DMT, 3.4 grams of 2CB, ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms and LSD tabs as well as various prescription drugs including Oxycodone, Vicodin, Valium and Xanax, according to a press release issued by Brandon Coombs, Yerington Police Department’s Acting Chief of Police.

Haynes told officers he was traveling through the small Nevada town on his way to Black Rock City for the annual Burning Man celebration, which draws tens of thousands of participants to the Black Rock Desert for a week-long gathering focused on music, art, self-expression and community.

Haynes is facing multiple drug trafficking charges including manufacturing or attempting to manufacture a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at Lyon County Jail on $248,000 bond.
