Mama Bear Gives Cub A Lift Across River With Big Salmon Clamped Within Her Teeth In Alaska
No one can multitask better than a mother. It’s a momma bear’s duty to raise her young until they are able to fend for themselves out in nature. That process usually takes around one to two years, and obviously looks different from sow to sow. And before that moment comes, bear cubs need a lot of help. It’s a momma bear’s duty to raise her young until they are able to fend for themselves out in nature. That process usually takes around one to two years, and obviously looks different from sow to sow. And before that moment comes, bear cubs need a lot of help. As you’ll see in this clip below out of Alaska, this particular female bear was rather generous with her cub.
You’ve likely heard the phrase “carrying a team on their back,” so allow me to show you a real life example of that happening. This mom was likely sacrificing some of her own comfort to make sure that her cub got to the other side of the water safely. I’d imagine that the little one on her back were likely having to dig in to stay on her back, and the mama bear didn’t seem to mind at all.
In fact, the sow was thriving, and was somehow even able to catch dinner in the midst of it all. As the the mother bear was acting as an “Uber” for her little cub, she also had a big ol’ fish (looks like a sizable salmon) clamped firmly within her teeth. My best bet is that she caught that prior to transporting her little one, but you never know. You can’t ever underestimate the skillset of a mother.
And I’ve got to point out that traveling through water with a cub on your back is probably one heck of a workout. In addition to that, this female bear had a rather large fish in tow. It’s really just another example of a mother going above and beyond, and that shouldn’t be all that surprising. That’s just what moms do, especially if their kiddos need a ride.
Taylor Thomas Albright, a wildlife photographer and videographer in America’s most northern state, was the one who was in the right place at the right time to get this one on video. It’s truly remarkable footage, and shines a light on how much mothers have to deal with (human moms out there can relate). This mama bear was a) traversing through a body of water, b) giving her cub a ride and c) securing dinner, all at the same time.

For most moms, that video right there is just another weeknight. Taking care of the kiddos while also preparing dinner is a tall task, but nothing that an experienced mother can’t handle. We should all be in awe of the work mothers put in. This video is a true representation of what moms go through – both animal and human – on a daily basis.
But hey, that’s just being a mother for you. They are masters of taking care of everything under the sun, then asking, “What else can I do for you?” This little bear cub is well taken care of, and dry, thanks to the selflessness and love that its mother is extending. And it looks like it probably ate well once they got to shore. The post Mama Bear Gives Cub A Lift Across River With Big Salmon Clamped Within Her Teeth In Alaska first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
